Weber-Myers

Créé par: Carnival
Équipe: 2021-22 Canucks de Vancouver
Date de création initiale: 7 mai 2021
Publié: 7 mai 2021
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
someone stable to put beside Hughes, hope he retires early as a favour to his 'home' team.

drouin adds a bit of skill to the second line, and lehkonen a bit of the grit lost through pearson.

hamonic+demers should stabilize the D pairs with stay-at-home guys down the right side.

kuraly+bonino both likely to be available, you get some faceoff skills, and a bit of production for pretty cheap

MTL gets a bit of cap space immediately, but also Beagle's 3M contract ends 1 year before Drouins 5.5, and Myers 6M is shorter than Weber's.

Beagle gives them some faceoff wins while he is there, which they desperately need.
Pearson adds some puck retrieval which they are also lacking
Myers would either be a shutdown pair with Chiarot, or anchor Romanov

There's no big difference between Myers and Shea Weber right now, but the latter's contract is way easier to manage. Drouin-Pearson is basically a wash but I prefer Drouin's upside. Beagle for Lehkonen is a big downgrade.

I do like Lehkky, but I feel you'd need something for them to attempt to swallow that Weber contract, even if they think its likely he would retire early. In the end I think the Habs might have to choose between Armia and Lehkonen this off season, and I like Armia a bit better when he is going.

Armia is probably gone due to UFA and his contract will be more expensive than Lehky's. Weber's contract is also better than Myers'. Weber's is front-loaded, unlike Myers', and is certainly not playing through it due to age and injuries and when he retires, the penalty is on Nashville.

It affects the team on which the players played for during the years when the cap hit was lower than the real salary. In Weber's case, it's Nashville. For Carter, it'd be split between Columbus and LA

from what i can tell, Nashville would have to pay anywhere from 6-24M(6 if he retires in 2023, then 8, then 12, then 24) ... costing them more later he retires(assuming still before contract ends of course). they made a revision for contracts like this, and parise, suter, etc ... where they can now spread that cap hit out over a few years, i think the most per season they can be dinged is equal to his AAV, though.

4 years left on Myers deal inversely

The longer term and $ of the deals they receive is offset pretty well by Lehkonen being like 3x as good an asset as Beagle so... why not address that part

Noone wants to fully evaluate deals here

That's quite a solid and tactful deal all told

15M$ for 12M$ similar term all told

But Lehkonen sweetens it to be enticing for Van

Remind me - Why would Roussel, his 4 pts, his aging/injured frame & his bloated US$3M per, of all the Canucks available get exp-selected again.............??

We both know Roussel is not the experienced leader type.

From Van it'll have to be a warm body yes - but a young one as you suggest above ^ ^ ^. If the Starbucks need to get to the Cap-floor then Van can unload an "anchor-ol-tired-man-contract" (and should most def)...but it'll cost some xtra-pick/prospect wrangling - 100%.

Does Van get faced with a recapture penalty if they acquire him tho? I know for Luongo both Florida and Vancouver were faced with a penalty

I think how it works is that as the contract goes along they track "net cap benefit"(NCB), which is basically the difference between the player's actual salary, and the cap hit. So any year that a team is paying the player more than what their cap hit is; NCB is accrued. If they pay less than the cap hit, the total NCB starts to reduce.

Basically since the end of the 17-18 season, Weber has been getting paid 6M, which is ~1.8M less than his cap hit. His first year in montreal, though he made 12M, so NCB for MTL was around 4M after that season. After this season the NCB for Montreal, or any other team who acquired him, will be negative, and therefore no penalty for anyone but Nashville.

For Luongo, the first year that Florida acquired him they paid 6.7M and his cap hit was 4.5M due to some being retained by the nucks. so first year they gained 2.2M NCB, but second year he only got paid 3.4M, with a cap hit of 4.5M... so the NCB dropped 1.1M from that 2.2M mark. then he retired.
