“ Poehling is not a 4th line Centre. At the NHL level he is a 2nd or 3rd line Centre “
That’s optimistic as he hasn’t shown that yet.
Is the Danault return at the TDL? Wouldn’t make sense to just use him as a rental instead of trading him away? If it’s at season end then his rights aren’t worth that return.
I have watched every Laval game this season and then again the next day as I am doing some scouting work. Poehling began the season very slowly and I thought MTL waisted a 1st round pick, but in his last 8 games he has been very noticeable, effective and much stronger on faceoff's. This is a projection for his career. He projects to be a 2nd or 3rd line Centre. For his size, skating, awareness. I am not implying he will put up a ton of points, which would lead him more to a 3rd line Centre, but if he had two offensive wingers, he could also handle the 2nd line Centre responsibilities. If Habs sign Danault, which could happen, then I see Poehling being eventually moved.
As for your other question, with the win percentage and the team that has been built, it is clear Habs are going for it, so Danault stays. I think for his value he still garners those picks even after the playoff's, should Habs decide to move him. He is a very good player. I do not know what his demands are in terms of $ and term, so it is hard to fully know. I am just saying if they decide to move him, he can fetch a 2nd and a 3rd. I know five teams that are interested in him. A good problem to have.
