Description
I'm not sure but it seems Detroit doesn't have great organizational depth on LD, so a solid #4 like Pettersson would fill that role with decent term and cap. The late 1st would put the deal over the top. Merril would be the Pettersson replacement in the deal. Sceviour was added just to make the cap closer.

I’d be happy to see Mantha in the Metro when it’s back together. Will make the Pens easier to play against.

I think it's closer to petterson + first + one of poulin or Poj. Or if you want to dump zucker instead because he doesn't fit well with pitt then him over petterson. The truth is you won't get him without one of poulin or Poj though regardless of anything else in the deal

As frustrating as mantha can be we can't score goals. Moving mantha is more a matter of when not if but I dont think its this deal.

I thought about that, but his career numbers seemed to be a bit underwhelming to do a second pair D, a first, AND one of our top 3 prospects. But I definitely understand if Detroit would ask for more, I just wouldn't pay more.

Why are the Wings trading their best FW for a "solid" second/third pair Dman....why?

I was just rationalizing it from a Pittsburgh standpoint. I'm sure someone could offer a 1st and a high end prospect, one that Pittsburgh currently doesn't have in the system.

And that is what I like to hear, it's the truth from both povs. You gave what you would want to give up and said what you wouldn't. Detroit says the price and since it's not happening from pitt side both sides move on. Thanks for being rational about it

Yup, and my rational came from the Zucker trade. That one was a 1st and a top tier prospect, but Pittsburgh isn't trading a prospect right now so I was hoping the 2nd pairing young defender might be of interest. Oh well. Just send us Bobby Ryan and we will call it a day lol

How about just a 3rd and Pittsburgh publicly admits we got away with a 6th skater on the ice with no penalty back in 2009?

Lol the main thing I remember from that series is that we lost cause we couldn't stop talbot of all the players pitt had. Guy was a monster in that last game.

Pens aren't moving another 1st round pick under Hextall. The Wild already have this year's pick. Moving 2022 makes no sense

Well, because it is a 1st round draft pick and a young 2nd pair left shot defenseman, of which your organization seemed very thin at so it would fill a need while gaining draft capital. Also, Mantha's name has repeatedly been brought up on the Athletic as a player that Detroit would move.

If the right player is available I would not be shocked if they move that pick. If it doesn't work this year then they would sell some pieces off to get draft picks back and build the prospect pool. Like when Hextall traded Schenn to St. Louis

You have the right idea but I`m not sure Hextall is going to trade a 1st.

Yah, this kind of struck me as a guy both Burke and Hextal would love and given the success this season maybe they can't pass up the idea of winning a cup in year one and going all in.

Yeah I think there is a chance they move a 1st if they get exactly what they want but I doubt it is Mantha. He has the size and skill but he really isn`t that gritty of a player.

Jon Merrill could be a replacement for MP when he is moved though.

That's a late first, which more than likely will never turn into a player that is of Mantha's caliber. And Pettersson is good, but nowhere near good enough to make up for the loss up front by losing Mantha. Wings probably have a Pettersson already in the system and will be drafting a better version of him in a few months, for free.

Mantha is 26....he has 10 years left in the league, at least. Wings will be drafting very high for at least 2 more years and then their window opens. Why does Detroit have any incentive to trade him unless it makes a significant impact on their roster?

Because people in Detroit must be stupid, or at least people on CP think so.
