Canes pass. We're not trading Bean anyways.

This does nothing for CAR. It looks like they may end up being able to protect Bean with Hamilton likely being unsigned come the expansion draft, so this whole discussion is probably moot.

If they do end up trading Bean, I’d venture to think they’d be aiming quite a bit higher than friggin Jesper Boqvist.

It's just a base of a deal that popped into my head. I would never expect them to be traded one-for-one. If they don't need to trade anyone then great

There's no deal to be made here. Maybe if the starting piece was bigger coming back, maybe Zacha, but Boqvist isn't anything special. Bean is already producing at half a point per game.

That was just a start, of course more would be added. I just thought of him as a piece that wouldn't have to be protected in the expansion draft but as many have said it doesn't seem like Carolina will have an issue if it looks like they are going to let Hamilton make it to free agency.

Correction; Hamilton negotiations will take place after the season. A far cry from letting him go to UFA.

I’d love to know why you think the Canes want Boqvist, and why they’d move bean if that was their target.

I was looking at a young asset with upside and did not need to be protected in the expansion draft. Bean also seemed like the lowest on the totem pole of the 5 defenseman that they would have to protect in the expansion draft. If they get an extension done before the expansion draft then great but they would probably have to make a move or let go of one of their defenseman in the expansion draft. If they did not have a deal done before then, they have 7 days before free agency opens but announcing a deal too soon between that time may raise some red flags inside the NHL. Odds are, they are going to have to let someone go or let teams talk to Hamilton.

I just thought it would be interesting to see what was out there with the expansion draft coming up but it seems like nobody is being moved.
