Description
I have a really, REALLY hard time believing we need Bellows if Golyshev is on his way, and while I think Bellows is talented enough to play on most NHL rosters, I just have higher hopes for Golyshev, especially considering how much better away from the puck Golyshev is. Sure, Golyshev isn't signed yet, but once we know the situation on him fully...

Why not include Bellows in a package for a top line winger at the trade deadline?

I say turn in Bellows and Aho, two NHL worthy older prospects who just don't have a place on our depth chart along with a 1st and 2 2nds for my favorite forward on the market. Gaudreau has speed, skill and a good shot. Watching him play on a line with Barzal would be just too fun to watch, and down the road I could see a Gaudreau-Barzal-Wahlstrom line, which could just be downright dangerous.

On the practical side of things, when Lee recovers from his injury, we'll have to protect 7 forwards from Seattle. My understanding is that Golyshev wouldn't be expansion draft eligible, unlike Bellows, so we could protect Barzal, Gaudreau, Lee, Eberle, Nelson, Beauvillier and Pageau, then protecting Pulock, Pelech and Mayfield, with Golyshev, Wahlstrom and Dobson all being exempt. This basically gives Seattle a choice between picking an big contract player like Bailey or Leddy who can actually bring some value and veterancy or picking a player with zero value. The point is, flip Bellows for a Top 6 forward.

Admittedly not sure on trade value, but the point is that I can't think of a better time to flip Bellows than this TDL. We should know the Golyshev situation in full by then an whether or not Bellows is flippable by then.

In bellows puts up 4 goals in the next 7 games , which overall would 7 goals in his last 9 games, you’d still want to move him?

Small enough sample size where I'd say yes. Unless Bellows can convince me he's the difference maker between Cup and no Cup, I see this as the perfect time to flip him.

I also think it says a lot that he really only scores goals next to Barzal. Sure, I'm glad he's burying the chances he's getting, but if he only works next to an elite playmaker, then he's basically another Okposo. We'll see if I get proven wrong, but 'til then, Golyshev makes me think we can do better.

I’ll take another okposo, we have needed players that can finish barzals passes

I’m not sure Johnny Gaudreau is the guy for the Isles. I agree that Isles need is top LW. My number 1 choice would be Forsberg if he is available but it would require a huge pay. I am on the fence with Hall but I can see it happening. In any case, I believe one or more of our LWers are going to be traded
My guess is Bellows and maybe Johnston as well.

I disagree. We need another creative, skilled forward on Barzal's line, not someone for Barzal to carry.

Now that I mention it, I think I'm being to harsh on Okposo, he might've been okay on a non-Buffalo roster after he left.

So if Laine was a UFA would you be against signing him? He’s not creative at all - he’s only good at playing off of more creative linemates.

I'm not really keen on getting a rental. In my mind, rentals aren't what you take to get you over the hump, they're what you take when you're already a frontrunner and you want that extra push just to be sure. I can see us going on a great run this year, but I really don't see us winning the Cup. Which is why I want a player with term that'll still be around next year.

My top three targets are Gaudreau (we need skill and speed, he has it), Rakell (maybe not a top line guy, but he'd be a great 2nd line scorer to push talent further down the roster) and Forsberg (the Preds likely want to keep him to mold their younger guys, so he'd be expensive, but a great fit into a Trotz system).
Bossy a aimé ceci.

I mean, that's a comparison between a rookie who does that over a small sample size and a guy who's already shown just how many goals he can score next to a creative linemate.

That said, no, I wouldn't sign Laine. Not at the price he'd command. If you're asking if I'd want him on the roster, sure, but I know he'd command a 9m cap hit, and I'd want a guy who could independently generate offense for that kind of money.

fair, I just think it would be pretty stupid to trade bellows if he continues to produce considering we are in cap hell and could use a cheap goal scorer for the next few years. this team struggles to develop forwards and if were getting good returns there's no reason to trade him.

Gaudreau would be a terrible fit on barzal's wing and if you've been paying attention you know there's 0 chance trotz is putting one of the smallest wingers in the league on barzal's line lol

My main concern with Bellows is that it complicates the situation with the Expansion draft. We kind of have to find a way to get Seattle to take either Leddy or Bailey for cap purposes, and Bellows jeopardizes that. If he's available to be expansion drafted, then Seattle can say "you'll need to give us a 1st if you want us to take a high cap asset. But our protection is as stated in the description, they have to choose between helping us with our cap or getting nothing.

I could still see Gaudreau being a great 2nd line forward, though I see your point about him not at all being a fit in a Trotz system. Who would you see as an ideal winger for Barzal? I think Wahlstrom will be that RW down the road, but what about at LW?

Again fair point, I’d like to find a way around that and maybe even buy out bailey if we can’t trade him anywhere (even with retention. I can’t believe before the season a good amount of fans valued Bailey over eberle. Eberle has an elite winger this year.

As you know I’ve always wanted to see beau back with barzal. He has the speed, forechecking ability and a great shot. If beau was on a more offensive minded team he’d put up 30 goals.

Beauvillier-Barzal-Wahlstrom. I could see that being effective, if only because this team is so built on depth. Knowing that line would be backed up by Lee-Nelson-Eberle, it becomes a lot more feasible.

After the playoffs last year, I can definitely see why people valued Bailey over Eberle, Bailey was putting assists up like crazy and Eberle was struggling to score goals.

I'd be against buying out Bailey. Sure, he's not elite, but his cap hit isn't so bad that we should be driven to that. I also get the feeling Ladd will LTIRetire at some point before the beginning of next season. He knows full well that he'll never play NHL minutes again with the contract he has.

eberle has always been an elite play driver, which is a lot more valuable than someone who is just a talented passer.

Yeah but 5 mill for a 3rd line winger is rough, Hopefully lou can trade him to Seattle and even retain salary if he has to.
