I don't understand why Jones would be available to Seattle if Klefbom isn't returning. I wasn't aware that Lagesson is considered a better prospect than Jones.

Similarly, I don't see that Merzilikins is so much of an improvement over Koskinen that you'd trade Bear away to get him, and if he is, would Columbus be all that eager to trade him away?

Lagesson brings something that Edmonton needs. Jones brings what Edmonton already has.

Lagesson is doing phenomenal hes a shutdown D and can play heavy minutes Jones is a better skater but a work in progress.

In this situation edmonton would have too many RD and need to move one for an asset or something they need which is a goaltender. I think edmonton would overpay to get a good goalie at this point.

I'm starting to think Nuge gets around $6.25mill x 6 or 7 years. Rishaug just said talks extension talks have resumed and were previously in the $6mill - $6.5mill range. In Holland's midseason press conference he was clear that he didn't want to sign him to a deal that doesn't make sense for the team given the flat cap. You also have to consider the fact that he has 9 5v5 points and is a -1 in 30 games on McD's wing for the majority. I like the guy and he means a lot to the team and fanbase, but I'm starting to highly doubt he gets $7mill. I know I'll get lit up on here for saying this

Well, both of you are assuming that Lagesson's learning curve will be the same as Jones'. Jones is a year younger, is under team control for one year more, and by the end of this season, will have twice as many games' experience as Lagesson.

Obviously, we come down on opposite sides of this gamble, but I'd rather base my decision on 100 games than fewer than 50.

Case and point he hasn't exactly been stellar as a center against Ottawa and Vancouver. He's a complimentary winger who kills penalties and powerplays. That being said somebody will pay him to be a first line center and drastically overpay.

Totally up to each and ever GM to decide that. I just look at what we have for depth in the system. I think the closest guy to Lagesson is Samurukov (Kind of) but we have Broberg coming soon that will destroy Jones. The good thing about Jones is he can play both sides. I think most would pick Jones to protect as well.

Edmonton has Samorukov and Broberg coming down the pipeline they are going to go with who's better right now. A huge issue was net front defending and Lagesson has solved that by being hard to play against. Jones played himself out of the lineup by making mistakes on the PK not blocking shots or getting in shooting lanes.

I'm just going with what seems to be working and what the coach likes. i could get behind protecting Jones as well.

I'm sure a team will be willing to overpay drastically, but I don't think that necessarily means the Oilers need to be the highest bidder. If Nuge signs an extension before hitting free agency he won't know his market value anyways
