I'm a canes fan so I gotta say Ladd is a great, but, right now that is a pretty fair trade, as both are on crappy contracts and past their prime.

Do you thing the Wings are stupid? Ladd has an extra year and makes more. Why would they do this trade and Nielsson's deal is up next year and Ladd has another year at 5.5 million. Bad contract for bad contract is ok as long as the money and term are close, which this is not.

Yes and Ladd has an extra year so Islander would need to add to take on 5.5 million for the extra year.

I was talking about what mikearky said. I don't think it's an even trade. Both players are useless at the NHL level, but one is on a longer contract at a higher hit.
