      It gives them a legit back up and they can afford his salary, plus it gets rid of a pair of defenceman they don't need that Detroit may be able to use.

      Redneck: That is awful deal for the Leafs. So what if they can afford it, if nothing else spend your money wisely. And why would the the Leafs want to help Detroit with two Dmen, a second rounder and cap space?

      Because it also helps them because the would otherwise have to put those players on waivers and both would probably get claimed. Also who cares if Detroit gets more cap space I don't see them being relevant with so many big contracts for declining players.

      So because we don't want our dmen to get claimed on waivers you are going to give them away along with a second round pick for a bad contract that Detroit has been trying to trade for years but can't? Detroit fans will love this trade.
