You included Ryan as a cap dump but then he is your 3C, I think the Flames would much rather hold onto a pending UFA that kills penalties and plays a really good 4C as opposed to getting a more expensive much worse Sutter. I don't get that move at all.

I think Sutter is way better than Ryan at this point in his career - the Flames waived Ryan earlier and he's been a healthy scratch a bunch. I have him on the Canucks 3rd line as roster filler, if the Flames would rather do Sutter (50% retained) for the same pick I'd have no problem doing that deal.

They waived Ryan because no one is taking a 3+ million dollar contract in a flat cap world and he can go up and down on the taxi squad on off days, waivers is much different this year than any year. Ryan has never been a healthy scratch, I'm not sure where you are pulling that from but it's wrong.
I don't think the Flames would move Ryan for Sutter period, Ryan on the faceoff dot is crucial to the bottom 6 and he is a phenomenal penalty killer, Sutter is what the Flames already have way too much of.

That WPG deal makes no sense for the Canucks. Sure you want to get rid of Benn's contract but to tie Motte along with it? He's been one of the most consistent players in the lineup.

Pearson garners at least a 2nd round pick in return especially if the Canucks are retaining 50% of his contract.

They are probably going to lose Motte in the expansion draft, and even if they don't, he's an unrestricted free agent at the end of next season and will cost $2+M to bring back. I doubt they do it.

The Jets have plenty of bottom pairing defenseman so they would have no interest in Benn.

Unlikely the Canucks don't protect Motte. Management favours Motte over the likes of Gaudette and Virtanen

Well you thought wrong. Ryan hasn't been a healthy scratch once, he literally has had a fractured finger for the last month. He is also noticeably better than Sutter

You're comparing the RAPM chart of Ryan, who plays 9 sheltered mintues a night, to Sutter, who plays 14 minutes a night getting fed d-zone starts and still comes out ahead defensively by expected goals. He's a better player than Ryan. And if you wanna keep Ryan, keep him! Happy to have Vancouver retain.

Lol look at the date range, this is over the last 3 years where Ryan also averaged 14 minutes a night getting fed d-zone starts. Where tf do you see Sutter there with the better xG? Ryan is literally better in every category.

I don't care how good Ryan was 3 years ago. He's fallen off a cliff.

How so? He literally hasn't played

FYI he also had a 2 point night tonight in his first game back from injury
