Don't know how the 2021 version of Staal is better than Kerfoot.

Take players from Buffalo with a grain of salt, I don't think a consistent 45 - 50 point seasons before Buffalo was a mistake. If he comes to the Leafs, he will produce, and that third line would look deadly. Staal wins over 50% of his face-offs, Hyman eats people on the third line, and Robertson with his shot will be scary to go against. Every line on this team will give opponents a bad time, imagine having to go against Mikheyev on the fourth line.

He produced before because he big minutes on the PP, which he isn't going to get here. He certainly isn't going to be big producer as a Leaf. Kerfoot has been good at centre on the third line. Plus Staal would miss 6 games due quarantine.

No one is scared of going up against Nick Robertson.. he plays with Taylor Hall and Dylan Cozens, Cozens is better than Robertson, and Hall is probably better than Hyman.

You do know Nick Robertson will turn into another Brad Marchand, his skill set and play is a comparable. As of right now, he's destroying the AHL and looks bored

I'm saying his comparable is to Marchand, and would never trade him for someone close to a Dylan Cozens, where I do believe that Robertson has a higher ceiling.

I can agree with that. Cozens will probably be a really strong defensive center maybe top at 55-60 points in his prime.

If Buffalo were to trade Staal, it wouldn't be for Kerfoot. Why would we want to acquire a guy with a higher salary and contract length with less general usefulness. Staal is a great mentor at very minimum for Cozens

Staal is not re-signing with Sabres next season, the Sabres need good players long term, which Kerfoot provides, and the Sabres are missing the playoffs.

Playoffs or not doesn't really matter in terms of this deal.

Kerfoot is at best a 3C and more akin to a 4C based on his stats in Toronto. The fact Staal's contract ends at the season's end is actually in of itself more useful to us.
