Or wait and sign him as a ufa before you give up strome and a 1st for him or whatever it costs.

Moving nuge is tough for oilers because they need a replacement for him in return. Top line lw capable of playing centre and very strong on both special teams. I just can’t see nuge and the oilers not coming to an agreement on an extension. He lives near Edmonton he’s got a ranch in bc he’s the longest serving oiler.

He may leave, and in that case I see us signing Taylor Hall to a contract if he does leave. I really want him back as well, but he’s from Vancouver I believe, and one of Vancouver Canucks, New York Rangers, Minnesota Wild, or maybe even Seattle Kraken may outbid us. Apparently Holland is set on giving him only 7M, and I see one of the teams listed paying close to 8M at least.

Nah you can keep Strome. He’s not as good as people think. Another 3c is what he is.

I know Holland’s ceiling was 7 million and thus far nuge hasn’t done himself any favours could see the final figure come in bellow that now. Still think deal gets done with Edmonton.

I hope so too. I would like to keep Nugent-Hopkins for as long as we can, but if we don’t get him under a extension before the expansion draft, then we won’t be able to keep him at all.

I’m ok risking waiting till after expansion. Protection list becomes very scary having to include him. I’m ok loosing jones but if have to protect nuge then it becomes a bit murky territory. I have a really hard time believing nuge will walk for more money just doesn’t strike me as the type considering if Holland is willing to go to 7 million how much higher will another team go for a guy who hasn’t played much centre in recent years doesn’t have unbelievable 5-5 numbers. If someone is willing to pay him leon type of contract unfortunately let him walk I just don’t see it happening. Even if it did I’m not certain that will pull him away because he’s not only made a fortune in the nhl but he’s been successful outside of hockey with horse racing. I might be overly optimistic but I think there’s a deal agreed upon but they can’t come out and say not signing until after expansion draft.
