The marginal upgrade for Colorado from Francouz to Allen would not be worth the sizeable downgrade from Graves to Mete+4th.

Allen's caphit is more than double that of Francouz as well, and almost $1m more next year, so it's not appealing from that perspective either.

A nice upgrade on defense for a slight downgrade in goaltending. Habs can afford to wait for Francouz to heal because Price is a workhorse and Primeau can play back-up for the time being.

We don’t need Francouz. Allen is better and nobody wants to move on from him. And I don’t care about the slight upgrade on defense. With Kulak doing good, we don’t need Graves. Plus, I feel that keeping Price rested is way more important than ever so slightly improving our defense. A backup goalie that’s good is something we’ve been looking for for a very long time. I doubt they would want to throw that capable backup away.

Then Seattle picks up Allen from Colorado and they are left with nothing (Sorry Mete) for what they gave up.

They are going to lose a good player regardless. I think Seattle would rather take one of their younger forwards than a back-up goalie. This is a win now move for Colorado. The difference between Allan and Francouz is small with the exception Allan is healthy now and more durable.

It's not a win now move since it makes COL worst short term. This is exactly why you added a pick.

Francouz wont be picked up by Seattle. So it's better for COL just to keep him than paying a hefty price (Graves) for +/- 15 games of Allen.

If Francouz wasn't going to be picked by Seattle neither is Allen.

Graves is the most valuable player of the trade. He’s leaving Colorado. This is a set back for them.

mete isn't an nhl player on playoff roster.

That’s just not a good trade long term for the Avs.
