I personally don't think it would matter, Rangers don't take this just gauging to see what the Ranger's fans feelings are on moving him at a severe loss.

They would retain 1-1.3M max or compensate with a 4th/5th rounder max. Either that or they take cap space back but it wouldn't be a large contract like Lucic/okposo/Louie E/etc. It would be a guy closer to Brendan Smith, 4M cap hit max and on the last year. Buy out is so cheap on him, 400K in 21' and 900K in 22' but its's a 3.7M hit for this year which we would like to lower and recoup. The deal would probably look more like ADA and a 3rd for Bennett. Does that deal work for CGY, maybe not...

Awesome, this was the answer I was digging for. I think you're right in saying it doesn't work for Calgary, I think that Derek Ryan would be a perfect example of what you are talking about but with only one year left it wouldn't make sense. Thanks man
