What Shouldve Been Done in the Offseason

Description
Chuck Fletcher screwed up this past offseason big time when it comes to handling the Defense once he found out Niskanen was retiring. Rumors were the Flyers were in on Schmidt idk how Chuck didn’t get it done. I get it Chuck is worried about the expansion draft bc he got pounded when he was with Minnesota and lost Tuch. But even for 1 year of Schmidt all it took was a 3rd round pick. Don’t know what he was thinking signing Gus as a replacement for a guy like Nisky. Mind boggling.

As an equivalent fan of both the Flyers and Nucks... I can say for fact Schmidt is a better fit here.

Can’t be worse then Hagg and Braun for half the price

Well the Nucks need all the help they can get on D as well. I’ve always just loved Schmidt’s game and thought he would compliment Provorov well and keep up with the minutes Provorov plays.

till you watch even slow wingers dump the puck past chara and beat him to it. He can't move.

Fair enough. More so added him for cap purposes. Would give the same results as Braun and Hagg but save 2.6m in cap.

That seems fair but Thornton looked awful the first few games and then got better... I reckon the lack of training camp was really tough on the old guys

Nah it's fine. Hockey is a vertical game. When their power forward starts taking it to the hoop you'll be thankful you have big Z back there to protect the rim

Schmidt has a 10 team no trade list, and the noise when he was traded was that he blocked a move to Florida because he preferred staying in the West. That NMC could have included Philadelphia as well possibly.

except that only works if he's standing still. Which in hockey is like never. So he can't get the puck out the corner. He can't help prevent dump ins. And if the puck goes up and down the ice he's a total liability.

it ain't just this year. Why you think BOS let him go. Their plan was for him to basically mentor younger guys. His ice time was getting cut up. He's just too old to play hockey
