I'm not normally a huge fan of rentals, but he was a guy that I liked for the Leafs. Wonder what he could be had for. Not that the Devils would likely trade him while he's not performing well.

He hasn't been terrible overall....he just seems out of place. It is almost as if he were a new player...learning new system, often out-of-position.

A year ago I would have said Gusev is dealt this year and Palmieri resigns. Now I'd say opposite.

Im not sure if he would waive for toronto but he would be a great fit there. I would say value wise, Palmieri (extension) for Nylander isn't too far off. Devils would need to add but it would make sense for both teams. Even though some Leaf fans value him as the next Gretzky

He needs Nico back but his play right now is just bad. Even Kuokkanen, McLeod, and Bastian are playing better. I think Palmieri has a better chance of resigning but I am not sure anymore.

If it comes out tomorrow that Palms and Ruff aren't seeing eye-to-eye, I wouldn't be shocked. He looks like he has been living in Lindy's doghouse.

Nico should help.

Nylander would be too much. Leafs have log-jam at defense with their two best defensive prospects shut off roster (Sandin on taxi squad, Liljergren in minors). All their rostered d-men would have to clear waivers. And as much as Leafs fans want to move Dermott, won't be much of market for him.

So I'd think the play for NJD would be to go after Sandin or Liljegren...along with whatever salary move the Leafs need to clear and picks if needed to balance.

why, why why are we giving up on palms? he has never given up on the devils.
you two are aware that palms has the second most shots on the team, he has 18 mins TOI- second highest among forwards, 13 hits 6 blocks and 2 power play points?????? not to mention hes been our back bone for the past FIVE seasons but sure lets give up on him because he cant find the back of the net. legit the only thing hes not doing is scoring-8 games into the freakin season.
i mean go watch what he did today, he played his heart out and completely man handled and locked down Hall all game. Palms is not our problem

Never said Palms was problem. If he doesn’t resign, that’s his call. But his role appears to have changed with new coach/GM.

No sacred cows.

Subban? C’mon. Last guy who should be captain.
It’s Nico, Palmieri or Zajac. They have respect of team.

thats why funny enough I think it should be Subban.

From what ive seen and heard, Subban is the life of the locker room, you see this after every win. he straight up dances and is the most happy one on the ice. He doesnt scream "jersey made" but i still think he has a big enough presence to make a real impact, he just needs a place to express himself and not get run out of town.

Absolutely there are others who deserve it, but will they be here? I hope Zajac gets to play somewhere where he can make a run, he deserves it. If he wants to come back than heck ya but not Captain if he leaves. Nico i guess should get it as he was first and all. i just think USA born Jack should/could be the face of the team.

don't get me wrong Nico is, id say our most important and impactful player, but for the sake of our locker room needs, Subban Jack or Plams should get it.

edit- dont you think Travis is to old?

Do you attend many games? Once normalcy returns, at next game, watch the bench, Subban is often on an island. He is more of the court jester than the king.

This should be the order
1. Nico
2. Palms
3. Zajac
4. Sevo
5. Jack

That's a huge nope. With the age gap alone, a swap with those two being the main pieces makes no sense for the Leafs. I'd be looking for more of a traditional rental deal.

I was more looking at the playing style but I get it. Next closest thing is one of those young defensemen (Lehtonen, Sandin, Liljegren) in that order. Would the Leafs be willing to give up one/two of them?

with our locker last year anyone would've felt isolated. This year is different, new coach new Gm, new line mates for subban, whole new Defense really . other than Tennysons 20 games Subban and Damon the only returning D-man
This year we have an identify. Subban had a big role in changing our locker room around, more than we want to give him credit for

I mean, obviously I don't really know, but it hasn't been Dubas' M.O to trade futures for rentals... I'd say Sandin is off the table. Lehtonen I think for sure, but I don't think he's the type of piece the Devils should be looking at as a main piece for Palmieri; he's 27 and a UFA at the end of the year. Liljegren... I honestly have no idea. Tough to get a read on how the organization values him. I think it's definitely possible.
