As great as Tavares is, Montreal should NOT do this.

NYI does not have to give up that 1st round pick. Tavares is a franchise altering player. The only reason he doesn't have the love from other similar players (i.e Stamkos, Kopitar, etc.) is because he doesn't have a supporting cast that can help him win games.

It's one thing to give up Galchenyuk, but they love Gallagher too much to give him up too.

Ok but Gallagher isn't a starting point so they can leave him out if Montreal really wants to but Chucky is 'the' starting point so with that their going to need to give up a lot more.

If montreal gave up on gallagher or galchenyuk like this, I'd probably stop watching hockey.

OK we need to take off the Habs goggles guys. I'd do this trade in a heart beat. Tavares is a freaking beast. Chucky and Gally are star players but not franchise players. At least not yet. Tavares along with Weber and Price make for one of the strongest teams in the league. Then throw in a first rounder which may end up being a lottery pick! Come on........let's be honest here as Marinaro would say.

I get why some question this as was my first thought but Tavares is pretty much second in the league to only Crosby and McDavid. Not only that he's a captain on man teams. We'd be acquiring another guy who is a true leader. Soon enough we'd be winning games on leadership alone... hahhah

Exactly, the Habs would have Franchise Center, Dman, and goalie. Look at the past 5,10,15 years. Every team has at least two of those. Tavares is Franchise centerman and Chucky would be the starting point. No question about that.
