i kinda agree, if PLD had a 5-6 years contract, would have been less sktechy for mtl. I put caufield cause i dont really have faith in him lol idk why

Watch a few UW games, you will see how his game transfers to the NHL. He may not be a big guy and many believe he is 1 dimensional however he is more than just a sniper. He had 19 goals and 19 assists in 36 games last season. He has 7-7-14 totals in 12 games this year and is focusing more on his defensive skills. The kid is just severely underrated in other aspects of his game. He won the Big 10 scoring title in his freshman year something that has never been done before.

Montreal needs a 1 LHD more than anything else right now after that I would say a 30+ goal scoring winger then a Center IF the consensus is that Suzuki, Danault, Kotkaniemi and Poehling\Evans are not going to be good enough. Personally I think our center position is just fine and I like all our defensive prospects. Our wingers are good but none of them outside of Gally has ever put up 30 goals. Caufield has that ability and then some, he could possibly be the illusive 50 goal scorer (Doubt he ever hits 50 but there is a small chance).

Gally and Anderson are signed for 6 more years. RW is good. Also, Caufield could be a bust for all we know. His 2 participations at WJC were not impressive. Even if he become an impact player, it wont be for another 2-3 years.

Dubois would become 1C from the start, Suzuki beeing promising but on a short period and KK not proving he can be top 6 yet.

Also, Dubois can play LW, which is, without a doubt, the weakest position on the team. It is weak now (why Toffoli play there), will be worst next year with Tatar leaving and no top prospect (Mysak and Tuch are not).

He has every step of the way so far. They said he would not be the same type of player in the NCAA and he was one dimensional. He went out and broke the big ten freshman scoring title held by Kyle Conner and added playmaking skills to his arsenal. They said he was a defensive liability, he has gone to Granato and asked for help strengthening that part of his game. The kid just flat out seems to like to prove everyone wrong. He is already regarded as having an elite NHL quality release and shot, he is not all of a sudden going to lose that.

Yes RW is set for 6 years providing Gally doesn't have a shortened career with his play style.
KK has the ability to become better than Dubois but even if he misses Suzuki is already almost even with Dubois. So having Suzuki-Dubois-Danault-Poehling\Evans in 2 years is not any better than having Suzuki-KK-Danault-Poehling\Evans but then you gave up a player who turned out to be = to PLD + a potential 30-50 goal scorer + 1st (which could be another top 6 forward or top 4 D man) minimum for what you already have but need to be patient with. Now is not the time to hit the panic button on KK.
LW is definitely our weakest position that is another reason to not trade KK for Dubois. Why give up a center who can play wing for a center who can play wing and costs 5.5 times more, when what you really need is a winger. It is redundant.

Now you switched from Caufield to KK. I agree on not trading KK for Dubois for all the reasons you mentionned.

But if you want to be a contender in the next 2 years (the Weber-Price window) you pull the trigger with an Danault+Caufield+1st+... offer. It is short term vs long term vision.

Absolutely if it was Danault + Caufield + 1st I would hate to lose Cole but yeah I think to line up Suzuki, Dubois Kotkaniemi you have to trade him.
