Hey fanatical,

Just for fun, make an AGM for those teams your trading with and let me know if they have the cap space to make these trades? My money is on not being able to. Nice analysis but unrealistic IMO.

Minni would have to make moves. Probably move ~$2m. Detroit is under the cap with all lines filled after the trade. They gain ~$3m but are offset through UFA losses.

Also the Canucks can retain more money in the Sedins trade if needed. Maybe move from the 2nd to a 1st if that was the case.

Bad trade for the Wild. $10m in rental players (without the cap space) that are about the same production level as a much younger Nino, and another young player in Dumba. After this season Wild lose Sedinsx2, Koivu, and buy Pommer out. Then they tank for the next 8 years of Suter/Parise contract?

Minny is transitioning to a younger core of Granny/Coyle/Nino (2010 draft picks), Dumba (eventually), Brodin, with Tuch, JEE, and Kunin hopefully ready to be middle-6 players in the next 2 years.

Not saying they are, but the Sedins don't push them into a Cup either. More 2nd liners is not what Minny needs, that's all they have already.

I believe this is called a "gutting". Canucks just need to wait out the Sedins. It's almost there.

With that much cap space they would take a run at Shattenkirk for around 7 million. (Remember Yandle took 6.35million)

The detroit deal is not terrible, but I think Vancouver needs to add younger players and draft picks instead of Nyquist who is probably a bit old for the "future core" of Vancouver's team once they finally become a legit team again. I would love the Minni deal for Vancouver, but Minni would not make that trade, Only scenario they do is unless they seriously believe they can win the cup in the next two years, which shouldnt be the case. As for "if the deal" of the Sedin's goes through, no they would be unwise to sign shattenkirk to a long term deal just because they have cap space. Adding a quality dman like shattenkirk will just make them more competative now and doesnt allow Vancouver to bottom out and get lottery picks. Also it is smart to save cap space, in order to resign your young guys when they need a new deal. Saving money for when Boeser, Julolevi, Demko and other drafted guys when they need a new ticket is the better way to go for a rebuilding team
