Description
#8 for #8 +(Valiev projects bottom pairing 2way D, Timashov has tons of skill, projects top 9 offensive winger)

Tanev is a well priced top 4 shutdown D, could complement Rielly or Gardiner

Carrick has looked good, but his dominant game may never translate to the NHL, Van deepens their prospect pool, an area of need for a "on the verge of rebuild" team

Any Tanev trade starts and ends with Kadri or Nylander. If Hall went for Larsson then this should be the ask.

Pretty bad IMO. I like Tanev though. Just need to give more.

Tanev isn't available, according to multiple sources. He's been injured for a little while now and he's still young for Vancouver. I highly doubt they'd move him, but even if they were going to, I don't think the Leafs would move any of their new core and I think people can agree that the Hall for Larsson trade is a bad benchmark for a top four defense-men trade since Larsson - Although Larsson is decent - isn't worth Hall. That's not my opinion, you can look at different articles that feel the same way. I think Tanev is a great defender and I'd love to see him in a Leafs uniform, but I don't think the Leafs are willing to pay with their core yet, especially since we don't know what this lower body injury has been or what it could do to the longevity of his career, and I don't think Vancouver is ready to move him before they move a player like Edler.

IMO, though, this trade might be a pretty decent one. I don't think Carrick is going anywhere yet because the right hand pipeline is lacking but they might be willing to move from him. Maybe throwing in a third round pick would even it out more for the people who think he's worth more? I think it's a good deal. Hard one for me to make but a good one.

Two rebuilding teams, Vancouver and Toronto really don't make great trading partners. If the Canucks are to trade Tanev, logic would dictate that the best trade partners would be teams that are need of Dman immediately.
And with Tanev's nice contract, maybe some other teams have good pieces that can help Vancouver long term. Last TDL, Dallas traded a first rounder and more for Russel.
If Tanev is that good, maybe Dallas is on a Cup run....Tanev for of two Honda, Johns and Lindell and another prospect. Same with Elder....he might waive his NMC to go to contender for a bit of a salary dump and two near ready NHLers.
Tanev, Elder, Hamilton I doubt are going to the Leafs....Leafs have cap and patience to get someone that helps them in the future without giving up prime assets.
