well that's easy, we'll just have to watch the oilers this year
the oilers Defence is miles better then the Leafs cuz they have more then a top pair, and not to mention Broberg and Bouchard, and big deal if Draisaitl is -7 he isn't a defenceman so why does he need to play like one. and the oilers finished higher in the standings then the leafs. And I think McDavid could tell you how easy it is to get around Morgan Rielly (the amazing goal he scored in January against the leafs)

uh, the leafs were 16th in GA after keefe took over, with an AHL defence group (rielly/muzzin/ceci were injured), the oilers were 26th. Klefbom is gonna be out injured, and your only major addition is tyson barrie, who's effectively an offensively gifted forward playing defence
the leafs added TJ brodie, we're getting a healthy rielly and muzzin back, and we have KHL dman of the year and PK specialist zach bogosian coming onto the team (who albeit, sucks at 5v5 I'll admit lol)
the oilers defence will be hot garbage compared to the leafs this year
ETHAN BEAR, DARNELL NURSE, CALEB JONES(who is going to break out), and Bouchard who is the first call up if any one on that right side is injured, and now there is an offensive force on the blue line in Tyson Barrie. I don't care about how good SportsNet says the leafs defence is.

The Oilers are going to have to outscore their problems for the foreseeable future and hope that Koskinen can play in (at minimum) 80% of the games this upcoming season.
Nurse is overrated and the group of Bear, Bouchard, Broberg, and Jones is still a few years out from being at their best. Larsson and Russell are effectively anchors unless firing on all cylinders.
The Oilers are going into the Canadian division with the second-worst blueline group. Maybe tied with Winnipeg's, but Ottawa's is the only one worse.

rielly >>>>>>> nurse
brodie >> bear
muzzin >>>> jones
holl > barrie (defensively, but in terms of points, yeah, barrie is better)
dermott >>> russell
bogosian/lehtonen > larsson

I'd temper your expectations on Bogosian and Lehtonen. Bogosian is an absolute wildcard (and as you've noted, a 5v5 detriment) and Lehtonen appears (in the minimal viewings I've seen across my Twitter feed) to be Barrie-lite. I'd actually expect more impact from Sandin on the Leafs' blueline this season: young legs run far in a condensed schedule.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
2 of your 6 d-men suck at defense (Barrie and Nurse) and you don't have a number 1 LOL.
Rielly, Muzzin and Brodie>>>>>>>>> Klef (when healthy), Barrie, Nurse and Bear

yeah I'll admit bogo/lehtonen are absolute wildcards, but if Lehtonen can be a sheltered PP2 quarterback for $925K on the bottom pair, I view that as a win
as for Bogo, he's tough, mean, a good defensive ish guy and a great penalty killer, which we've lacked

Precisely. Although getting an improvement over Holl who sucks without Muzzin would be sooo beneficial

They aren't good.
they have a better Defence the then jets and there is a strong chance Jones breaks out and Bouchard is NHL ready but the right side is filled up and another year in the AHL will do him good
Barrie doesn't suck he is just a offensive D-man who didn't mesh will with the leafs, and Nurse can be good at times but ya most of the time he is bad
Barrie sucks at defense, which was my point. You guys didn't fix the G and your D-core. I like adding Turris and Kahun, not to mention keeping Ennis but come on man your team didn't get better. And your D is still mediocre at best
Dunno what everyone is arguing about but Tampa had 243 goals to lead the league last year (3.5 GF/GP). This forward group had 332 lmao, they could literally just outscore all their problems (4.75 GF/GP, which is low considering some of these guys were hurt). That D/G combo isn’t significantly worse than Detroit, if at all (3.7 GA/GP) so I reckon they come out ahead more often than not in high scoring games every game (instead of a 4-3 or 3-2 typical score, it would be 5-4 most nights).
