Jordan eberle was arguably the most valuable player on the isles that season - this may come as a surprise, but eberle was a big reason why barzal had an incredible season

I was looking on natstattrick (best site for stats, it’s what staple uses) , and even this season barzal isn’t as effective when he’s not with eberle.

During the 17-18 season, eberle was a powerful driver of offense (expected goals) but he was also an elite finisher. The past two years he’s still great at generating offense, but he’s been an average finisher, which is why half the fanbase wants him gone. I dont have any idea why he’s not scoring as much -is it the system? I’m really not sure lol

I don’t want him gone, but he misses the net a lot. It’s frustrating sometimes. I don’t know if Eberle hit the net with a backhand this season lol

He’s frustrating , no doubt - but he’s effective and makes barzal a better player.

I just don’t understand why he’s not finishing as much. How do you from being one of the best finishers in the league to average lol - it’s not like he’s declining ,he’s still generating a ton of offense -

I’m wondering if it’s because of the system - is he not able to attack the net as much? Trotz system is quality over quantity (in terms of shots). His s% was never below 12% from 2012-2016. Had a down year in 2017 , traded to the isles. Shot 13.7 % and then shot below that the previous two seasons. If he shoots above 12% next season he’ll put up at least 25 goals.

I think he’s just getting unlucky shooting wise

the 1st line is so weird. They dominate possession and get tons of quality scoring chances, but theyre average in terms of converting their chances.

Lee + Eberle - 28 goals For, 28 goals against this season (even strength)

Eberle with nelson - 9 goals for , 2 goals against

Eberle with beau (64 min) - 4 goals for, 0 against

Lee scored more goals when he wasn't playing with eberle. Ive come to the conclusion that lee and eberle just don't mesh well together. Lee scores at a higher rate without eberle + barzal , but if you add Bailey to barzals line, lee scores more but the line does worse lol .

I think the reason why he doesn’t put beau-barzal-eberle together is because all of them are skilled and deceptive players. That’s why he puts bailey with beau +barzal because he knows bailey is a simple, low event player. It’s like he tries to keep beau + barzal in check. It’s bizarre

Lee is with barzal because trotz knows he’s just going to forecheck and go to front of the net. It’s like he cares more about predictability than effectiveness.

But beau-barzal-eberle , lee-Nelson-bailey gives the team the best chance to win
