It's not so much about trading your best players (that's easy) it advancing your youngsters and find new youngsters that are going to good NHLers. Right now it appears that the Leafs have a good "model" to go, I could be wrong the only two guys of any significance they traded in the past two years were Phanuef and Kessel and Bernier And the return of those guys haven't shown up in the NHL...It was basically cap dumps and the return of Lindberg, a second rounder and Kapanan haven't played in the NHL and goalie Anderson So drafting well, getting more draft picks, signing cheap UFAs Soshinkov and Zaitsev and some minor trades for guys with potential Carrick, Marincin, so far has been the Leafs method. But it mostly has been the advancement of Reilly, Gardiner, Kadrin Nylander , Brown, Komarov and two recent picks Matthews and Marner
