<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div><i>Figeroux: The reason the Leafs had "so many picks" was larger due to trading down in the draft. The future will decide whether it was a smart move....Dermot, Bracco, goalie Anderson are the top results of the "trading down" and a trade.
Looking how the Leaf made this turnround (well they still might finish 25th overall this year), is the development of their own players.....Nylander, Gardiner, Reilly, Brown, Marner and the signing of small cost UFAs Zaitsev, Soshnikov,Hyman
. Vancouver can't really trade their way out of their current malaise, but once the Sedins, Miller, Burrows salaries are gone....spend wisely and hope that the young prospects become good NHLers. No other way.</i></div></div>

We won't trade our way out of this situation. Rebuilding and years of development are what have to happen eventually. In terms of spending cap wisely. I would just spend it on mostly cheap guys that can play physical, pk and that will protect our young guys. If we aren't going to beat them on the scoreboard then at least leave them black and blue after a game. Pretty much steer away from being a cap ceiling team.

We have a lot of young depth at D with Tryamkin, Stecher Gudbranson and Hutton. As well as more outside the NHL. All these guys need time to develop in the NHL before they reach there peak. That's why I think the Canucks should take advantage of trading one of their more veteran defenseman. Right now I think right now one of Tanev/Edler are trade-able. Tanev would be better and easier to trade since he has no NTC in his contract. There would definitely be a bunch of teams interested because of what he brings to a team so I feel that we'd get a pretty good return for him.

Right now we lack elite young talent at forward like what you guys have in MNM. Only really promising young forwards we have are Horvat, who might top out at a Ryan O'Reilly type player at most, and Boeser, who hasn't played a game in the NHL yet so that's up for debate.

This transition from old core to new core is gonna be long and miserable. Hopefully some day there will be a light at the end of the tunnel for us.

Hopefully you guys start transitioning into a winning team soon. You have the 3 big guys up front and a bunch more promising guys to build them around with.
