Wow, not sure why MTL would do that.

could drop the pick but its capfriendly
MTL get some cap space for a lesser player but is contract expired after this year
DET could get a free pick and a good veteran for the locker room

what cap space does Montreal drop? Byron isnt going to make much more than even the retained Helm here would. And it's not just a lesser player Helm is really really bad while Byron is at worst a decent 3rd liner. and then they throw in a pick.
I mean, go for it if you want, i think it would be hilarious. It's just a terrible deal for Montreal

The only reason Habs would trade Byron is to shed salary. Why acquire a bad contract in return. makes no sense

Yeah, 1.5 mill difference this year isnt worth a hilarious down grade and a pick. The leafs just moved a guy whose akways hurt for a cheap prospect and no sweetener going out

On here (Capfriendly) Byron is considered a capdump so the team getting him wants to receive a pick/prospect even if I think Byron could get a late pick

even if Byron was a cap dump, trading him for a significantly worse player who is also a cap dump wouldnt net the team taking Byron a 7th rounder let alone a 2nd

Byron makes almost as much as Helm, There's no freaking way Detroit is retaining 50% on Helm for one year while taking on Byrons full $3.4 mil for 3 more years for just a 3rd round pick need to add a 2nd round pick he's 31 years old and is on the wrong side of 30 for a rebuilding team like Detroit.

I just got roasted for sending a 2nd round pick ( that was the initial trade )

Well at least you were correct, Because no team especially not Detroit is taking a 3rd round pick along with Byron for a $3.4 mil cap hit for 3 more years. Detroit already has tons of bottom 6 scrubs really don't need more.

Byron is still a excellent bottom six winger, the player is good, it’s just 3.4M in a cap era is expensive ( realistically GMMB doesn’t want to trade Byron )
