Description
I don’t think many of our young guys are quite ready this year. So do we sign a bunch of depth and let some younger players get big minutes in the AHL u til the deadline where we move our depth for picks or younger players?

I understand maybe we get two trades at the deadline these are just a few targets and ideas I had NO TRADES ARE EVEN and I know that we would have to retain salary or move picks as well
I’m just curious peoples thoughts on younger targets and the idea of signing vets to one year in an attempt to trade

Not enough for Beecher.

AA is almost valueless.

Pretty rough return for Hoffman.

Perlini is valueless.

Smith has negative value.

Leafs can't afford it.

Are you trying to get blacklisted as an organization?

Pretty good.

Little to much to give up on COL side. Maybe Byram for DeBrincat works.

Fair.

Ducks rather keep Jones.

Signing UFA's just to trade them is a good way to get UFA's to not sign with you.

Why does Boston trade one of their top prospects for a pair of bottom 6 NHL forwards.....which Boston already has an abundance of

Hm. To many extents but that's overly reductive. Many precedents of recent UFAs being shipped out. Many players would sign with teams as a springboard for that goal. Many players would appreciate being seen throughout the league as a deadline asset.

Dunno if there's evidence to support your certainty.

Especially as deadline assets where the team overtly displays their situation is the issue and the player inversely is valuable & desired in the league widely.

Granlund would be wise to do this. If he goes to a contender he gets 15/game and PP2 so like 40 points. If he signs a cheap deal with Arizona he gets 19/game beside Keller & Garland with PP1 (60pts) and then is easy to trade to a contender. Az obv rebuilding.

He gets seen as a key Deadline Acquisition (tm) instead of just a good fa and keeps his perceived value afloat, while ensuring he plays in the playoffs.

I will never understand why people sign UFAs and trade them.

These guys wait 7 or more years to become UFAs you pitch them on signing and then you trade them? You realize these agents have other clients right? No UFA would ever sign with your team again if you treat people this way

Byram projects as a first pair defender and Newhook as a 2C. You'd have to put someone like DeBrincat on the table to start that conversation.

That's too much for COL to give up...I'll assume the Jimmy Vesey move would be a 3 team trade that I'm not sure the other two teams do?

As far as the anti-signing a UFA and trading him...at this point the UFA's still available might have to accept a 1 year deal and if the team isn't in contention they probably wouldn't mind a trade to a playoff team and hope to flash in the postseason. Galchenyuk just signed a 1yr/1.035M deal with Senators. I'm pretty sure he's hoping to score some goals, get traded at TDL and hope to get a better deal next off-season. Hoffman isn't looking for a 1 year prove it deal by any means, except most of the contenders can't do a 4-5M deal right now if he wants to be in the post-season. A one year $5M deal, maybe TDL deal when a contender might have a player on LTIR...it's not a terrible thought for him since at this point a 5x5M deal on a team not rebuilding seems unlikely.

The luxury of the 2 way contract is if a prospect is having some difficulty to the size and speed of the NHL, he will be sent down to AHL for more seasoning. The worst thing a team can do is speed the development of a high draft player. I think it was that way last season with Boqvist (from games I saw)

Victor Hedman is the model I use to illustrate the length of time it can take in the NHL to develop a high draft pick into an elite player. It didn’t happen over night and the Lightning should be commended for exhibiting patience while nurturing this talent.

I hope the Blackhawks will do the same with Boqvist ( Mitchell too).
