Description
Before you jump on me, hear me out...
I kinda went quantity over quality here, and I don't think this trade gets it done. However, I kept seeing multiple ACGMs that had the Canes paying Dougie+ for Laine which is just ridiculous so I wanted to propose a trade that doesn't involve the Canes trading away one of their defensive cornerstones (or Necas cause the kid's a beast)
When you look at the pieces going to the Jets, I know there's not really one main piece, but it's more to fill the holes the Jets have in their roster. Nino and Skjei aren't exactly castaways; both have shown that they are viable options on the 2/3LW and 2LD (respectively), which the Jets need (for those people who think both of those guys are liabilities on the ice, you're wrong), and the Canes are retaining heavily on both guys. The Jets are also getting a gaggle of picks and a highly talented winger prospect in Bokk. Like I said, I don't think that this gets it done, but I'd love y'all's thoughts on the value here.

Jet arent taking that

Canes cant afford that. I.e retaining 4 million for 2 years and then another 2.5 million for 3 more years. It makes no sense as we are a cap team.

So how's Carolina going to be able to afford to give Laine between $9m-$10m plus lockup both Hamilton and Svechnikov? I figure Carolina will roughly have about $25 million to spend next summer on 8 players those 3 alone pretty much eat that up.

I get what you are trying to do, but I dont think the jets accept.
Chevvy will ask for Necas and one of Hamilton or Pesce and the canes will say no, but that's the price
Nino and Skjei are decent options but they dont more the needle for the jets. THe picks are nice and the jets could use them to add someone else i guess

Even if the jets were to go for that the canes can’t afford to retain that much for that long.

This isn't the whole offseason plan, just one trade. There would have to be a lot of cap clearing moves made before next season in order to make it work well.

I get that. What I'm trying to see is the value. Because I've seen trades involving Pesce or Necas (or both) that have the same number of picks/prospects attached to them as I did here and that's just an overpay, plain and simple. Laine's good, but he's not Pesce+Necas+ good imo

Yeah this was my train of thought too. I just wanted to see what the value of Laine is excluding one of the Canes cornerstone pieces

Typical quality for quantity offer where the quantity has pretty much nothing that we need.

1st round pick is nice but this team should go pretty deep so it will likely be a later pick.
2nd and 3rd round picks from 2022 likely don't return NHL players and if they do they won't be making an impact until after Scheifele's contract is up and Wheeler has retired.
Skjei with that amount of retention is a good piece, but IMO we're really only looking for a stop gap as we'll have protection issues in the expansion draft with JMo, DeMelo and Pionk needing protection already. Also retaining that much salary for 4 years hasn't ever happened before I don't think.
Nino is another winger and we already have too many of those.
Bokk - see Nino

Looks like a bunch of stuff Carolina would be fine losing but isn't what the Jets would be interested in at all.

I would also be fine with Slavin.

Then the Canes keep Hamilton, Pesce, Fleury on RD and go with Skjei, Gardiner, Bean on LD.

Jets would add for Slavin, sorry. That's a no. Same for Dougie. Those two are guys other teams try to trade for, not guys you trade away

The difference is that Laine seems to not have the greatest relationship with the team right now. Under normal circumstances, yeah, but he seems to want out and the Jets seem to have been shopping him

Maybe Hamilton doesnt wanna be there long term and CAR agrees to deal him with an extension? I dont know...he's probably headed to UFA and will test the market after next season.
He is the type of guy that would making losing Laine palatable. A top 2 dman who plays in all situations at his prime

Not pesce and Necas, it’s one or the other. Both would be an overpay
