Caps do not need to pay to get rid of Panik or Hagelin. Teams would be willing to pay to get them.

maybe under different circumstances but flat cap mix with equal to better players are signing for fractions of their normal salary i think the capitals would need to pay.. imo

I think teams would pay a small price to get them. I’m not giving up Protas to get rid of those contracts honestly. Even if it’s only a third or fourth round pick, teams will pay for Hagelin, Panik, or Jensen.

I wouldn't give up Protas either, for sure, but I agree with CF67, and I think it's because of the term, not the cap number.

Vegas was in a MUCH more desperate situation where they had to get rid of cap space somehow. Caps aren’t in that dire of a situation, at least not yet. GMs easily take advantage of those teams that need to quickly shed cap, like Vancouver did with Vegas.
