Description
Speculating here... but have to think that since Hoffman hasn't signed yet, he has an agreement with a team that needs to move out CAP first. Since no news or rumors have surfaced, it's possible that team is the Islanders (Lou's cone of silence).

Explanation for trades are listed in the trade.

NYI
  1. Gáborík, Marián
  2. Choix de 6e ronde en 2021 (OTT)
Détails additionnels:
OTT agrees to take on Ladd's contract since he is only owed 9m actual dollars over the next 3 years, but comes with a 5.5m CAP hit. They move out Gaborik's money in exchange for a player who can actually play.
OTT
  1. Bellows, Kieffer
  2. Ho-Sang, Joshua
  3. Ladd, Andrew
  4. Choix de 1e ronde en 2022 (NYI)
Détails additionnels:
Ladd is going to cost the most to move. With Hoffman signing the left side is secured with Lee, Hoffman and Beau making Bellows expendable. JHS gets moved after filing for ARB (Lou's comments seem to hint this way). Isles take Gaborik money to allow them to go over the CAP.

Détails additionnels:
NYI move Hickey for an LTIR contract to give them more CAP space.

So many Isles fans are just hoping that Boychuk and Ladd are waiving their NTC or even M NTC to go to lousy teams with cap. I just don't think that is practical to wish away their cap.
Teams just might want to take on long term cap of non NHLers and their salaries. In effect it's AHerL Ladd and his NHL salary and cap and and latefirst rounder....not very much
NJ can spend 6m cap better than Boychuk for two years for a just a 2nd rounder.

Ladd was willing to waive his clause last year when the Isles and Wild almost had a deal at the TDL. Also, these guys would rather play in the NHL than the AHL, so if it's a choice of playing regular minutes for an NHL team or being subjected to a bench or AHL role with the Isles, I think they can be convinced to waive. Also, both players now have modified clauses, meaning there are in fact teams they can be traded to without needing their permission.

As for the trades, these are based off of rumored teams interested in these players.

I think three of your four trades are way imbalanced. Good logic, don't love the execution.

The Minni trade was Parise...meaning equal or even more cap coming back to the Isles. I just think it so difficult to move high cap players without cap going both ways.
You're right about being sent to the AHL...but that only saves the team a maximum of 300,000 in cap. 1.075m minus the cost of the replacement.

Columbus is gonna roll with Kukan-Peeke as the third pair (Kukan is left-handed, but has played on the right as well). So Hickey and his cap hit aren't attractive to us; if we wanted a third pair guy making $2.5M, we would have just kept Nutivaara.

My reference to the Minn deal had nothing to do with what the Isles were giving up or getting back, it was merely to point out that Ladd has already agreed to waive his M-NTC once so getting him to do so a second time shouldn't be too difficult. Also, Ladd submits a list of 15 teams he can't be traded to... meaning there is another whole half of the league that he can be moved to without his consent. The NTC for Ladd isn't that big of an issue.

Imbalanced as in, too much going from the Isles or not enough going? I feel the Ladd and Boychuk deals have too much going from the Isles, but given what CAP dumps are costing teams I figured those two would have to be over payments to move.
