Arizona will not be taking back cap in an OEL deal. The only reason they are moving him is to move salary.

They don't care about the salary cap as long as the actual cost is low. Eriksson only costs them 5M over the final two years.

5M is not much for rich teams but for the Yotes to spend 5M on a player that shouldn't be in the lineup is rough. They do care about the cap because they only have just over 2M in cap space right now. they still need to find a way to compete while keeping their salary low. and they only have 8 forwards under contract through next season. They will not be taking on Eriksson and Stecher which will end up costing them just as much as keeping OEL.

Arizona will get plenty of offers for Ekman-Larsson that contain a 2020 first and don't include a gigantic cap dump like Eriksson. Take out Stecher and then that package will get you Raanta, so you won't have to sign Markstrom.

They will get two offers: one from boston, one from Vancouver. OEL won't waive his NMC To go anywhere else, and this deal is very much more about saving arizona money than cap: ~50 million owed to OEL.

im not sure anyone who responded in this post fully understands the trade. OEL has made it clear that he will only waive to two teams: Boston and Vancouver. If Arizona truly cares about moving his contract, they will have hardly any leverage in the situation. He has made it clear that if he is not traded by Friday, he will not waive for any team, and will stay a Coyote. Eriksson only costs the team 2.5M per year as a bottom 6 option, and stecher will only cost around 3M per as a dman for them. Throwing in Juolevi and a 1st makes this trade happen, but it doesn't happen unless they also sacrifice and take cap back their way
