Nope Thompson is an insured contract so no cap relief but they don't actually pay it. The actually money is just under 70mil actually.

If Theodore is the price to offload Stoner, believe me, you'll have better offers than a 3rd rounder. Stoner isn't as bad as Bickell was with Chicago. He does have value still its just that he's overpaid. That's all. Sweetening the deal to get someone to bite should be a little salary retained and a draft pick/Prospect (Not Theodore).

I think the most obvious choices here are Fowler and Despres. Two solid guys that can be traded and replaced easily with the plethora of depth this team has on D.

You are better off just sending Fowler for a 3rd than trying to move Stoner with Theodore. Theodore may be the best defensmen not named Lindholm the Ducks currently control. To throw him away just to move Stoner is ludicrous. If Murray did that, I can guarantee the Samuelis would fire him on the spot.

He isn't even making the team a younger LHD is now ahead of him in Larsson. As a ducks fan it's goes... Lindholm, vatanan, Larsson, Montour/Theodore/manson is pretty close. Having watched them all play a lot expect Larsson.

As a Sabres fan... this deal isn't terrible, but it's a big cost for a guy who will likely be a #3 on our team (probably be on 2nd pair with Bogosian). And it probably forces Fasching & Bailey to start the year with Buffalo as opposed to AHL along with putting Reinhart at center.

I don't think Buffalo does it,
But I think the value is close,
It is rather give up one of those guys & something other than the 2nd.
Maybe something like Girgensons & Baptiste? Or Larsson and Bailey?

But with Guhle looking decent and McCabe looking good and showing versatility (played on his off-hand a few games this pre-season), I think the defense will be alright and that this type of move won't be necessary

I like Theodore but he wasn't very good in his games last year in the NHL. Yes I know some of that was who he was playing with but I was still expecting more.

Theodore played really well when he was called up for his first season in the NHL. In the playoffs yes, he struggled, but I don't actually think Larsson outplayed him during training camp or that Larsson would be more reliable over the course of the year. I think Theodore was going to start the year with the Gulls anyway so they went ahead and moved him down.

Larsson is going back to Sweden as soon as Lindholm is signed. They didn't want to send him back so soon since Theo could ride the bus back, but once Larsson is cut, he's gone for the year.

Larsson was better in the preseason. Theodore was bad I seen every game. The eye test and stats both said he was over his head. Gave up tons of shots compared to the rest of the team. He just wasn't good.
