I'm not sure why the Oilers would send all the players for only a second. Each of those players hold value to the Oilers in one way or another

Capspace for them. Before this trade they have 11 ish million to sign a goalie and a couple forwards and depth on defense. With this trade, the available capspace for the Oilers goes to 17 ish million. That extra 6 mil could be the difference between signing a goalie like Markstrom/Lehner or signing Mike Smith. I am NOT saying that Markstrom or Lehner will sign for 6 mil....just saying that extra 6 million could be just whats needed to be able to sign a better goalie with everything else the Oilers need

Oilers just got an extra 4 mil in cap space if klefbom goes to LTIR. JP still has top 6 potential which he could reach before the half way point of the season. Not to mention with Klef going on LTIR Russel becomes much more valuable to the Oilers. Chassion is cheap and can play up and down the line up and PP. With kelf on LTIR there's 14 mil in cap. Which is now more then enough to get a top 4 D(one of the cheaper options looking for a show me deal), a few good options at 3C and back up goalies better then Smith but not as good as Lehner or Markstrom which would both need to be over paid to come to Edmonton either way, which the Oilers don't need to do regardless.

Interesting take, I made this to see oilers' reactions.
Chiasson is consistently being sent to us by your fans for a 4th. (Consistently).
Russel is being talked about as a buyout option(which only saves $1Mil).

So it's interesting to hear these guys have value to some fans.

There's no guarantee that Klefbom goes to LTIR for the season tho. And if he does this trade opens up 21 million in capspace. Even if montreal adds ELC prospects or more picks. Getting rid of 4 from Russel and 2.1 from Chaisson and the also from signing Pul for 1.5ish....there's your Taylor Hall back or Mike Hoffman. Just saying it's not the worst thing in the world to gain capspace in a dead cap era
