We need cap space

This doesn’t really change our cap situation very much. We get a goalie to replace Markstrom and improve our bottom 6. Statsny comes off at the end of the year same as Sutter so doesn’t impact ability to sign petey and hughes. Fleury can be exposed in the expansion draft and then comes off the books the year after.

I could’ve made more trades and buyouts and stuff to clear space to sign RFAs as well but I just wanted to show the trade idea

We have more pressing needs on the team than a 7M goalie and a 6.5M 3C. Our RD position still needs 2 upgrades probably and using any cap space to address that would be a way better outcome for the team. Plugging Rafferty straight in to the top 4 is a considerable downgrade and running out of cap space with a 21 man roster is obviously not ideal.

I can't think of a single thing from Vegas' point of view to say no about, I could see them retain 2M even. I like the logic for Vancouver too

Nah. The value of 2 solid, yet overpaid players for 1 pure cap dump in this proposal is fair IMO.

And this would be a last-resort-too-happy-from-the-Pietrangelo-signing-to-care type move. MAF should go East and certainly not stay in the division.
