I gotta think WPG says no even though Matthews is the best player in this deal (no disrespect to Hellebuyck).

#1 Hellebuyck is a Vezina winner and probably the best goalie in the league or ONE of the best, WPG cannot afford to lose him.

#2 Cap space. Hellebuyck & Ehlers combined are a hair over what Matthews contract is. I think this trade leaves more holes in WPG's line up than it fills.

#3 Throwing in Pionk who had a career year and the 10th overall pick pushes it over the top. Obviously, any trade that is acquiring Matthews has to have HUGE value coming back, but I think WPG is in a better position without doing this trade.

Interesting proposal though.

Jets say no, take out 1st, Ehlers and Pionk still no, Current Vezina trophy winner locked up long term around 6 mill with still his best years ahead of him, he’s worth far more to Peg then that package
