There are many teams that want to sign Markstrom. Yeah he might be a UFA, but this guarantees you get him and on term (somewhere between $5.5M and $6.25M). Moreover we've seen many times (Turris, Pacioretty, Stone, Hossa, etc.) where a team will let the player talk to other teams to negotiate a deal before getting traded and it wasn't considered tampering.

The price being paid isn't just to acquire Markstrom, it's to dump the Reimer contract too. In reality this trade is McKeown (or a prospect) for Markstrom and the 2nd (or a later pick) to dump Reimer's contract.

Okay never mind then. Will look elsewhere for that... LOL

Also just to let you know, there is a meteoric difference in value between Gaudette and Demko...

Hawks would want a 1st for Murphy. I'm guessing VAN wouldn't want to part with one of their top prospects so it would have to be a 2021 top 10 protected 1st

no teams are taking your cap dumps. Like the hawks last month with smith, maatta and de Haan. Being told over and over again maatta has value, yet he keeps coming up as one of the most likely players to be bought out.

I just tossed Virtanen in there, but it was mostly just to ask the question of what Chicago fans perceived Murphy's value was. I do not think that Virtanen moves any needle on a trade

Sutter isn't a cap dump with 50% retention and an AAV of $2.15M for a year. He's a bottom six guy that helps shore up a teams PK and faceoff taking. It ain't worth much, but it's definitely not a cap dump either. There are plenty of teams with cap that can afford that.

As for Beartschi, he could be a reclamation project for another team when held at 50% retention ($1.7M for a year). The reason he didn't play in the NHL is because of concussion worries, but he also played the whole season without injury so there could be a move made there. A buyout for his contract makes no sense when you save just as much storing him in the minors, especially when buying him out adds cap to next year.

Gaudette Isn’t resigning for 1mil he scored 12 goals and had 33 points he’s your 3rd line centre for the future lock him up for 3 yrs at 2.5mil it will be a bargain contract once Sutter is gone and he gets for playing time

IF youre retaining 50% of a contract, he is a cap dump.

He is in the sweet spot where he can't be offersheeted or go to arbitration, so that means the Canucks can squeeze him down to almost his qualifying offer if they want.

Yes he was good statistically, but he doesn't really fit the Canucks system. Neither Pettersson or Horvat is a penalty killers, leaving Sutter and Beagle as the only other two options (we saw this in the playoffs when Gaudette was scratched for Sutter). So unless Gaudette miraculously gets better at defending, the Canucks should trade him while he still have value.

Gaudette's on a thin line right now and if you sign him to that contract, yes there's a chance its worth it, but there's also the equal chance that it's really really bad. Canucks can't afford making those bets with their cap problems.

To reiterate what I said, Gaudette is a fine 3rd line center on a team that already has two penalty killing Centers, but Gaudette ain't it in VAN. If he stays at $1M then maybe he's worth it just value wise.

I think your being a little hard on the guy I watched every post season game and outside of motte Gaudette was your best bottom six forward he brought energy every night and played with a physical component to his game and was the most dangerous looking guy on the second pp unit, Beagle can kill penalties but brings zero offence and I’m sure Bennings trying to move his 3mil cap hit same could be said for Sutter but I’d keep Sutter over Beagle if he’s healthy and that’s a big if it’s Gaudette or bust you have no centres in the system, most second line centres in this league kill penalties so horvat might need to step up but his defensive # aren’t that great either. but if you want to move Gaudette we have a place for him in oil country.

Man I love the guy's energy too, he's so much fun to watch! It's just tough to see where he slots in when Travis Green refuses to play young players on the PK (He's literally said this). He's also refused to play Horvat on the PK.

What would EDM be interested in moving out for him? Benning/Anthanasiou? Idk if that would be enough to move the needle. Albeit close.

I think Benning Gaudette would be a good swap for both teams, Benning Stetcher are the same playing but Benning comes at a cost saving as much as I hate to move him as he leads all Edmonton blue liners in the fancy stat compartment but gaudette would slot in as our 3rd line centre and be given more opportunity to thrive, I think it be a mistake for the Canucks to move him but if the coach doesn’t trust him then you make the move and try and find a 3rd line centre next yr as a ufa after sutter comes off the books
