TOR
  1. Kesler, Ryan
  2. Manson, Josh
  3. Choix de 3e ronde en 2020 (ANA)
Détails additionnels:
Toronto makes this deal because

1. Acquire Manson who can slot in the top 4 on a team friendly deal for the next two seasons
2. Acquire Kesler who we can stash on LTIR. I know Toronto said they didn’t want to to dabble in LTIR this year but I do believe this will be their only recourse, and an advantage that they can afford while a lot of other teams cannot.
ANA
  1. Engvall, Pierre
  2. Johnsson, Andreas
  3. Liljegren, Timothy
  4. Choix de 2e ronde en 2020 (TOR)
  5. Choix de 4e ronde en 2020 (VGK)
Détails additionnels:
Anaheim makes this deal because

1. Acquiring Johnsson gives them some more offensive firepower to plug in the top 9. When healthy, he can be an excellent contributing player.
2. Liljegren moves to the west coast and can potentially slot in the bottom pairing in Anaheim while playing guys like Lindholm, Fowler etc. And can be insulated by them. Low risk high reward
3. Engvall gives them a bit more depth and makes the dollars work with Toronto.
4. Getting Kesler off the books for the next two seasons and finally being done with LTIR after Eaves came off the books this season.

LTIR is not an advantage to teams.

If it was Leafs would have $100M+ lineup year in year out.

Tbh after 2 bad seasons in a row for Manson and injury troubles he seems to be very overrated and overpaid. The most I would give up for him is Johnsson and Anaheim would have to retain 50%

Here's a better deal for both teams: take out our 2020 third and Engvall and Johnsson, for whom you can almost certainly get more elsewhere.

So why is that a reason to target Manson exactly. And btw the whole leafs Roster is not overpaid. Muzzin, Reilly, Nylander, Andersen, and Matthews all are being paid the way they deserve to be. Other then that its mostly rfas and 3rd/4th liners and bottom pairing defenceman making average contracts. The only person who may be a little overpaid is Marner and you could argue Tavares but he isn't imo.

I'm not saying it is not a reason to target Manson. I think you saying Manson is overpaid when you have three guys (Matthews, Marner, and Tavares) all making over 10 million dollars is the reason I said the leafs roster is overpaid. Neither team in the Stanley Cup final has a single-player being paid over 10 mil. Neither did the Conference finals, and neither did any team in the second round. The leafs roster is mostly made up of those three guys because of their large cap hit they are the reason the leafs missed the playoffs this year (play-ins do not count) and won't win the cup for several. The leafs can't afford any depth players because their "Big Three" made it impossible for them to sign great depth players to even try to make a solid run in the playoffs. Yeah, Nylander and Muzzin are being paid what they should and with Reilly and Andersen, but their contract is coming to an end and both will be asking for way more than what they are both being paid now.
