Description
Still just messing around with different iterations.
These trades are a combination of stolen ideas and things I haven’t been yelled at for yet.

The CAR/ARZ trade is a draft day 3way. CAR gets Freddy for a 2nd+3rd. ARZ gets that 3rd from CAR plus the 1st (15 OA) for Kuemper with 16.7% retained salary (750k). Leafs get 2 years of Kuemper cheap + a 2nd for Freddy and a 1st.

Kept the Pesce trade separate because it isn’t done until FA, and only if Pietrangelo agrees to sign.

The Marincin buyout is purely out of spite.

I’m guessing they don’t teach you that you can’t steal a FA until grade 10, huh Ricky?

Why wouldn't Carolina just give up their 3rd and 13th OA for Kuemper retained?

They definitely could do that. I’m just going off their reported interest in Freddy.

The inquired about Freddie, if they were still interested a deal would have been done

NJ’s AGM and Sr VP hockey ops quoted as saying they’re looking to add 2 dmen, a top 6 FW, and a 3rd line winger.

Right. Because every deal that could be done for this off season has already been done. Sound logic.

Yeah. Not a bottom pairing Dman and certainly not giving up a first for that. Johnsson might be worth a second. It’s been debatable between leaf fans and other fans. I think he’s worth a third. I’d give you a third for Johnsson. I have no interest in Dermott. We need top four in NJ

I wouldn’t want to move 13 for Kuemper. I’d move the 2021 first but not a top 15 pick in an incredibly deep draft. Anderson for a 2nd and 3rd i think I would do

I know, but if they were going to get an upgrade in goal... why would they not go for an.... actual upgrade and not Freddie?

Freddie is an upgrade maybe not as big as kuemper. The price is way cheaper tho

Freddie was worse than both Mrazek and Reimer

He absolutely is not. He has a long history of being a top 10-15 goalie in the NHL.

No, he doesn't. Only 2/3 years. That's not a long history. You forget 4 years ago he was backing up John Gibson in Anaheim (who btw is one of the best goalies in the league with a long history of being one of the best goalies in the league)

That simply isn’t true. Gibson and Anderson were mainly a tandem but they were both too good to be in a tandem. As a result the Ducks traded Anderson because he was older and Gibson was probably a bit better. Honestly I’m really not sure how you can say that Anderson wouldn’t be an upgrade over Mrazek. Anderson is a true number 1 which the canes have needed for years. If the price isn’t really heavy, why wouldn’t you make the move

Andersen isn't a number 1. Why do you think there's been such an uproar about his consistency and the need for a decent backup in Toronto? He was a .908 goalie this year. Reimer was a .914. Why would you make that move when you have a better goalie coming off a better season who's been a number one for most of his career (minus a few years in Florida, but all goalies go to die in Florida) I don't understand why you make a move for Freddie. Goaltending was far from Carolina's major issue this year. I'd be far more concerned that outside of the 3 60 point producers on the SAT line, no other forward hit 40. I'd be more concerned that Jordan Staal is looking more and more like he's regressing. Reimer in particular was a stand out goalie this year. I'm not saying don't make the move if it's there. For Keuemper? Fine. But Freddie is not an improvement

Reimer is not a number one goalie. The issues with Anderson are far more due to Toronto being totally unable to defend. I would expect Anderson to have way better number if he were on the canes. I agree the canes need a top 6 winger so why not improve the goaltending without having to spend a ton of capital. I would still put improving goaltending as the canes most immediate need
