That OEL trade is so bad for Arizona Bettman would take away another pick from them just because they’re throwing at that point

As you all saw, I had a LOT of trouble with the OEL trade because yes he’s a great player, but his contract serves as an issue and his play. I mean like this is an 8M guy until he’s 35 and hasn’t really been himself, so it’s not like he’s going to fetch a lot.

The original trade I had lined up actually had Vaakanainen in place of Zboril, but my coyotes friends said it was too much to ask regarding the contract.

Feel free to propose what needs to be edited and I’ll go in and fix them

UPDATE: I fixed the Oel trade, adding more value. What are your thoughts now?

People on here like to talk about OEL and how awful he’s been but the truth is he’s still a top pairing defenseman who is overpaid by $1-1.5 mil and almost certainly will bounce back with a new coach (Tocchet and him butt heads). His return will be a first, a top 6 C/top 4 D, and a B prospect. And people on here will complain and talk about how much team X got fleeced.

As a new GM in ARI, hell like wait until he gets the perfect offer, likely a sizeable return, similar template to Karlsson I’d assume (pick, conditional pick, prospect, roster player) - obviously not the same return as Karlsson but I’d think you can get that framework done. A first, a good prospect (not zboril, better then him), roster player (not debrusk but a good guy) and maybe a conditional on both ends (protect both teams)

That was my biggest fear as a coyotes fan is overdoing it with Oel, especially where theres so much talk about the contract. So obviously i swapped it and added in Vaakanainen, if that fixes it for you (Like i daid, being a yotes fan, Oel is an absolute mystery to me)

I think it’s just him and Tocchet. I have no idea why he hasn’t been fired yet. His track record with player performance has been awful. What I really wish they’d do is fire Tocc and bring in someone else so the Coyotes can benefit from his rebound but they seem hellbent on trading him. The other thing to consider is that OEL has a full NMC so he decides where he goes. I’d say he waived for Boston or Edmonton only.

I'm not protective of him, you can have him, we just aren't taking back high salary players that do not help our rebuild unless we are getting assets. We are also super set at RD. If you trade demers to a playoff team you might be able to do if for a 6th, the red wings would be helping your salary situation out by taking a bad cap hit during a flat cap and rebuild. This means you are throwing in a top young kid or higher pick z since yotes don't have picks, well take the player

You’re getting a decent top 4 RHD on a good contract who can mentor your young guys..

Not good enough, his salary is way too high and we are loaded at RHD. You have to shed salary and we are only taking contracts that we gain assets. This is the flat cap era cut cost world. If you want us to take him you have to throw in jenik or something comparable

He makes like 3Mx1, now on EARTH does that constitute Jenik, someone who scored ~2.0 PPG in the ohl going back????

His cap hit Is just shy of 4M, you don't have any picks to send us, so not sure what other prospect would work

No why am compensating you taking something that you wouldn’t even realize on your cap for one year with a top prospect? Demers is already worth more than what was originally in that trade to begin with lol

Because it's a flat cap cut cost world and you don't get to just dump players and cap space for free to teams that have it. The only way the red wings are taking any salary from any team that is trying to dump salary is by being compensated. This isn't a let's help everyone league, cap space for a rebuild team is weaponized. A playoff team might accept it without compensation, but a team like Detroit is going to get assets to take contracts. It would be a 2nd round pick to take his contract for the year approximately, I'll gladly take your 2021 or 2022 2nd

Ok I’m sorry dude, but there’s not a chance Detroit gets any big compensation for a one year contract under 4M with the cap space they have. Maybe a 4th but that’s about it. They’d be better off keeping him instead.

Then that is exactly what would happen, you would keep him, flat cap, cost cutting world is different then any other year
