Description
This assumes that Florida will be one of the hardest hit teams financially and looking to shed salary.
Florida will likely not be able to sign Hoffman and Dadonov and will be looking to replace with a legit top 6 winger.

Eriksson deal hurts the Canucks badly but they need to be the top bidder as I don't think Ottawa will make many deals buying bad contracts. White had a down year after signing his deal, Virtanen can replace that production and potential for a lower cost, Demko is possible goalie of the future and the 1st will be necessary to move Eriksson who can still play and salary will be much lower than cap hit.
Canucks hope White can take another step and prove the year before was an outlier.

Canucks will still need to shed salary the following year (Roussel and Beagle most likely) I order to sign Pettersson and Hughes to full value deals.

Not sure FLA would accept, but personally think the deal largely works for both.

Ekblad would be a game changer to the Canucks D core and would solidify our young Blackhawk-ish core (Horvat-Toews, Pettersson-Kane, Hughes-Keith, Ekblad-Seabrook(Not saying any of the former are equal just drawing lines))

I agree, I'm sure Florida would have a hard time moving him but he's not developed to the top tier that he was expected too.

Without Ekblad, FLA's defense is baaaaaaad. I think for them to accept an offer like this, VAN would have to include one of their young defensive prospects in this deal and maybe add another pick. The 2nd would also definitely need to be 2020 and not 2022. Resigning Barkov and Boeser in the same year could be challenging for FLA as well since they don't always like to spend too much money (Bobrovsky...smh). But I don't know if FLA would even consider an Ekblad trade unless they decide to do a rebuild and trade Barkov / Huberdeau / Ekblad in the process. Barkov is a UFA after next season, so it'll be interesting to see what happens there. He could make A LOT of $$ in free agency.

Panthers don’t even answer the phone...if he became available multiple team would offer much better packages for him.

Part of my thinking was that FLA would need to shell out a lot to resign Barkov but looking at it again I've undervalued Ekblad. Changed 2022 2nd to 2021 1st and added Woo. I still think that Ekblad has fallen short of both his hype and the contract but he's clearly a top pairing dman.

From a financial standpoint this makes no sense for FLA. Boeser has a higher salary in 20-21 than Ekblad, plus you have them taking Stecher who will probably ask for at least 2M.

Also, mutually agreeing to terminate a contract doesnt remove their cap hit - see the LA Kings/Kovalchuk situation. Kovalchuk's 6.25M is still counted towards the Kings cap hit. Not that Baertschi would agree to terminate anyway. Hes owed 2.4M regardless of if he plays in the NHL or minors, and in a flat cap he wont get offers for nearly that much elsewhere. At the very least he will make 1.6M over the next 2 years if VAN chooses to buy him out
