Come on F50marco! This hurts, I respect your opinion. What's wrong with saying a prospects ceiling has dropped from #7 overall? Would you take him 7th overall this year? Better yet, would you trade him for Olli Juolevi?
It must have been deleted
Hey I even went out of my way in the other thread to point out that its fair to say that maybe he was chosen higher then he should of but not only is that hindsight, the same can be said for players taken in later rounds. Is Brenden Gallagher a 5th round pick now? No.
Anyways exo this argument actually started a while ago for me. (Not with you in particular). I just hate the way some people evaluate players now. Like its an exact science or something. The kid isn't drew Doughty yet and his advanced stats have decided he will forever be a terrible player. Its silly. Ask anyone if they thought Mark Giordano was going to be as good as he is now at 21. Guarantee nobody predicts that. All I'm saying is that okay fine he hasn't proven much yet but he still has a high ceiling, he still can be a star player one day and he still has value right now.
What really ticked me off with the other thread was that it was Ryan Murphy for Nurse. Like Ryan Murphy has proved so much more than Nurse to this point? Saying Murphy is better than Nurse at this point does not make sense other than Murphy is farther ahead in his development which is normal considering he's 2 years older. Compare Nurse in 2 years to Murphy now and we'll see which one is farther ahead. My money is on Nurse.
I once painted an alternate universe where guys like Yakupov and Nurse where drafted by a team like Anaheim instead. Do you think they would be at the same state in their career right now? I highly doubt it. I'm pretty darn sure if Yakupov learned by playing alongside vets like Getzlaf and Perry, he would be farther along in his development then he is now and would at the very least be a annual 20 goal PP specialist. Something many teams would love to have. Same goes for Nurse. Throw him into Anaheim's development program instead of Theodore back in 2013 and I truly believe you see Nurse chomping at the bit as much as Theodore is. Vice versa for Theodore. Throw him into the Edmonton d corp at 19 and right now a bunch of you would be throwing this guy as shoe into trades because his ceiling has gone down.......Then in this fictional universe he would get traded to Anaheim for peanuts and he then blossoms into a solid dman because they develop him correctly.
If a player was like 24-25 and still hasn't created a niche in the league then I would start to become more hesitant to back him but at 21, that's truly unfair.
