Description
Nurse is not a failed prospect. The jump from junior to the NHL is a massive one and doing that jump with the oilers is a hazardous one. The 15-16 oilers were a tire fire that Nurse was trying to hard to fix. You don't ship a 21 year old top prospect out because his first NHL season was about as good as the team he played on...

Sekera has been on RH side top pairing for team Europe and playing extremely well.
Nurse-Reinhart make the top pairing in AHL and play 40-50 games in NHL

No one said he was worth nothing. BUT seriously, you don't even have him on your roster yet Jesse (3 picks different and 3 years less developed) is the 3rd line RW. So...maybe his ceiling did indeed drop from #7 overall.

Lol did the the other EDM team with a Nurse trade get deleted? I can't find it anymore? The one with my rant, Sticking Out Tongue

Anyhow, I agree with you CollarMcbroken, the amount of negativity Nurse gets is crazy!

Come on F50marco! This hurts, I respect your opinion. What's wrong with saying a prospects ceiling has dropped from #7 overall? Would you take him 7th overall this year? Better yet, would you trade him for Olli Juolevi?

It must have been deleted

Forwards take a lot less time to develop then Defence. Nurse wasn't put in a situation to succeed and he did the same thing to Schultz, we ask to much to soon is all i'm saying! Nurse still plays in the NHL if he's ready but if he's not why destroy his confidence?

Hey I even went out of my way in the other thread to point out that its fair to say that maybe he was chosen higher then he should of but not only is that hindsight, the same can be said for players taken in later rounds. Is Brenden Gallagher a 5th round pick now? No.

Anyways exo this argument actually started a while ago for me. (Not with you in particular). I just hate the way some people evaluate players now. Like its an exact science or something. The kid isn't drew Doughty yet and his advanced stats have decided he will forever be a terrible player. Its silly. Ask anyone if they thought Mark Giordano was going to be as good as he is now at 21. Guarantee nobody predicts that. All I'm saying is that okay fine he hasn't proven much yet but he still has a high ceiling, he still can be a star player one day and he still has value right now.

What really ticked me off with the other thread was that it was Ryan Murphy for Nurse. Like Ryan Murphy has proved so much more than Nurse to this point? Saying Murphy is better than Nurse at this point does not make sense other than Murphy is farther ahead in his development which is normal considering he's 2 years older. Compare Nurse in 2 years to Murphy now and we'll see which one is farther ahead. My money is on Nurse.

I once painted an alternate universe where guys like Yakupov and Nurse where drafted by a team like Anaheim instead. Do you think they would be at the same state in their career right now? I highly doubt it. I'm pretty darn sure if Yakupov learned by playing alongside vets like Getzlaf and Perry, he would be farther along in his development then he is now and would at the very least be a annual 20 goal PP specialist. Something many teams would love to have. Same goes for Nurse. Throw him into Anaheim's development program instead of Theodore back in 2013 and I truly believe you see Nurse chomping at the bit as much as Theodore is. Vice versa for Theodore. Throw him into the Edmonton d corp at 19 and right now a bunch of you would be throwing this guy as shoe into trades because his ceiling has gone down.......Then in this fictional universe he would get traded to Anaheim for peanuts and he then blossoms into a solid dman because they develop him correctly.

If a player was like 24-25 and still hasn't created a niche in the league then I would start to become more hesitant to back him but at 21, that's truly unfair.

We don't have that other thread anymore to which there are other parts to that trade not being mentioned here. I'm a fan of Nestrasil and I'm ok being in the minority if that's the case. Every team needs a shutdown player and they always get under-rated. I am also very much NOT on the Yak bandwagon. They need to keep him, play him next to McDavid, trade him at the deadline...not to the Hawks. With that said I can understand points being made about Nurse and Dmen taking longer to develop and I'll even add one more by saying there are simply less spots for Dmen so entering takes longer. I still don't think it's unfair to say a top 10 pick has their ceiling lowered, but I understand where you're coming from.

If it were an exact science...Johnny hockey wouldn't have been drafted in the 4th round. Meaning that literally every team thought there would be 3 players better than him! Isn't that part of the fun though. When your team finds an Ondrej Palat in the 7th round?

As for the development of players, I think that's to easy to say. The answer is of course! Everyone would love to develop next to good established players. Brandon Saad (a 2nd rounder) next to Toews and Hossa. To the counter I would actually say that in most sports these days...tanking is the way to rebound your franchise....Any Toronto fans in the house??? I'm joking Palhal
