If he decides to continue and if they were to move on from him, two big ifs, this would be the kind of return they could expect.
They will not be able to get FMV on a guy entering his mid 30’s, one year left, who is looking towards retirement, whose commitment is questionable at best, who quit on his team. Just not happening. The real value is freeing the cap space.
If they win the Cup without him it could be a real possibility. Having proven they can win without him the cap space would be far better used re-signing Krug and high end backup/borderline starter like Dobby or Greiss to pair with Jaro.
If they fall short management would be less likely to want to move him. Despite it all, and what the 25% idiot portion of the fan base thinks, they are better with him than without him. Will the players want him back though? I know what they are saying publicly, but you know that is just pablum. If they fall short will they accept him back in the locker room with open arms?
Does Darth get a game or two in this run? If he looks good does that factor in?
It will be an interesting situation to say the least.
I’d say odds of him retiring early are about 25-30%.
Odds he comes back for final year with Bruins then retires. 50-60%
Odds he’s traded in the offseason. 10-15%
We will see.
