I don't know if Strome has much say in the matter. He doesn't have arbitration rights, so he can take the contract or sit out the season, and I'm not sure if he is willing to do that. The threat of having to take a QO might drive down his contract price as well.

Idk why you’d want to insult what you hope is your long term 2C by forcing him to accept well below market value. Maybe you can use that to get a better deal and that would be fine, but to expect him to take under 900k is just insane, that’s not how you keep talent

He's not likely the long term 2C. The Hawks have not conducted business this was in the past, but they may be left with no choice this season.
