What do you suggest they would have to add?

@El_Dub 2-5 on this trade from the leafs are the like rearranging folding chairs for ducks having no value. Marner contract is awful especially on team that lacks superstars. While leafs get at top5 goalie(in my bias opinion), mature leadership, a B+/B- prospect and #4 defensemen who happens to be right handed giving aid to their problems. You need more research my guy. We dont need this.

tears of joy Sorry my bad. Retention on Marner would be a start. But, I would just scrap this all together.

Your team lacks superstars yet you would not trade for a 23 year old top end talent?

My reasoning was, Gibson is a top end goalie and Manson is a top 4 RHD with 2 years remaining before becoming an RFA, which is why we are trading our current starting goalie (which is pretty good himself, that you can either re-sign or flip to say a San Jose, Minnesota, Detroit, Ottawa, Chicago etc...) as well as our 2nd best player in Mitch Marner (drafted 4th overall). Also, added in our top goaltending prospect as you guys are re-building. For context, the leafs traded a first round pick for 2 years of Jake Muzzin at the same cap hit to a rebuilding Kings team.

Johnsson is only 25 years old and signed to a good contract. So definitely would be a good addition to a young re-building team and is a top 6 winger. Holl is a serviceable puck moving RHD on a cheap contract. I do not think he would be a detriment to your current line up and provides value.

Getzlaf has slowed down, but yes he would absolutely provide experience and leadership to the leafs. Comtois is a decent prospect as well a can step into the line up. The leafs aren't in a position to retain salary. The could possibly sweeten with mid-round draft pick and likely remove Comtois from the deal. I admit, that may have been a touch greedy but this is all for fun anyway...

@el_Dub
Marner imo is not that high end talent that single handily makes a difference like a Mathews and at 10+million with the flat cap we can't take it.

Manson will be a ufa and is our only RHD. Much more valuable than you think.

We traded Anderson to you guys we don't want him back and Gibson is argulbly our best player on team friendly deal. Not to mention, how many years does 30 yo Anderson have left on his contract? 1?

We have plethora of wingers especially at lw. Johnsson is practically worth nothing for us and top 6 is unrealistic. Holl is also in the same ball park but is 28. Ducks should only target players 18-24.

No problem with fun, but yea man research is needed. Even if the mid 1st is added or Comtois is removed you're not even close.

Nonetheless, I wouldn't trade Marner right now. I'd give it another season. You guys aren't in that bad of a spot. Plenty of good/entertaining hockey left to be played with this young group. Stay with your guys.

Apologies about the misreading earlier.

It definitely leans to the leafs side in value but if you dig into it it's great for both sides, like stated above the ducks add a young superstar and an expiring goalie they could do a short term deal on and bring Scott in with him to learn the ropes. To balance it out more instead of Holl I would substitute him with liligren and another B- d prospect that way Holl isn't gone by the time the new guys are getting rolling. So to recap
To Anaheim:
Marner
Andersen
Scott
Liljegren (and someone like duzsak)
Johnsson
add in a 2021 2nd and 3rd to sweeten on retention and a bump for comtois

To Toronto:
Gibson
Manson
Comtois
Getzlaf 2 mill retained.

@TheOtherAuston Sometimes the question isn't is this equal value, but what is the incentive of this deal for both sides. For Tor is clearly get a RHD, Elite Goalie, Veteran Presence and cap space. For ANA? ............................................... like what do we get and over payed RW who has proven to not be clutch, a b prospect whose a RHD(a need so thats cool), a couple of replaceable lawn chairs, an older goalie who is suspect and can get us a 2nd all while losing bigger/better pieces. Y'all are goofy.

Edit: In addition, we already have an upcoming goalie in Dostal. Do ya research.

I don't understand the Marner conversation
His stats are almost an exact comparison to pkane what do you want retain half a mill? It's not like he steam rolled the leafs but got what his stats dictate he should have got
You get a young superstar
A- goalie prospect
A- RHD prospect B- RHD prospect
The relief of getting rid of Getzlaf for picks (I'm not sure anyone would trade for)
Johnsson could be used or flipped sure he may not fit a need but instead of being negative about every put your gm hat on and negotiate reasonably to see what could actually be there sure it wasn't a great proposal but it's actually a fair base to start upon

@TheOtherAuston
Marner is a great player. But he's a winger and flat cap is an issue. Retention will have to be much more than half a mill. You'd be surprised.
Scott isn't an great goalie prospect but a decent one. didn't he have injuries? Lukas Dostal is better imo. Look him up.
TL is a good future player. Just not worth this deal and doesn't add to it.
Why do you think we want to get Rid of Getz? Our captain for however many years, only has 1 year left and we are a team not close to competing.
One of our biggest problem is depth at LW under 24 yo and y'all think we want to add another one who is 25 while giving one away that is younger and has a better future possibly?
Idk guys sounds faulty.
Dont forget lets give you guys a better goalie with a longer team friendly contract for Anderson whose older and has only 1 year left.
Marner doesn't ever fetch this return. Great player but this Aint it.

My current for Marner trade in response to this kind of a start but kinda firm
ANA:
Bos 1st round
Comtois
Dostal
Manson
for
Tor:
Marner

no retentions included for now
