Not sure it makes sense for NJ, but bringing in a young PPG player is hard to say no to. This deal 100% depends on if NJ thinks Subban can rebound, which I don't think he can.

Yeah that's also my concern.
What about no retained salary on Subban? TOR wouldn't have to worry about Hughes salary until his deal is up, so they would just have to cut down on FAs.

Kind of a gutsy trade by Toronto. It could work. It would be risky for NJD to trade away Hughes after just one year.
Although there is a lot of risk for Toronto. PK hasn't found his form and if Hughes doesn't develop this could go down as a horrible trade which doesn't age well.

why would toronto be trading for another center when they have 2 1C's already? a complete waste of hughes.

New Jersey isn't ready to be good, so paying marner and moving out hughes makes no sense.

New Jersey isn't ready to be good, so paying marner and moving out hughes makes no sense.

They have 2 elite Cs but its better to have too many and move one to the wing if need be. When Tavares went down with injury earlier this season things got messy.

Marner is a great winger who is probably overpaid. Subban is probably finished as an effective regular.
