I'd do Helm for Dubnyk, fills backup/1B role for Detroit and opens a spot in the lineup for a young guy to play

Raanta's injury history is a bit worrisome. Probably better to hold onto Stalock then so Kahkonen doesn't get thrown to the wolves if Raanta goes down. Just re-sign Soucy instead of targeting Oleksiak

I'm going to think after a strong performance, Soucy will get more elsewhere.

Not saying your values are off, because they're actually pretty good, it's just a matter of roster construction.

2 Things I agree with: Lundell at 9, and Hunt trade

1 Thing I'd be okay seeing: Helm for Dubnyk. Both 1 year left and really not doing much for their clubs, why not try a swap.

As for the rest: I'd technically like to trade Donato but he'll probably be packaged in another trade for either center or goalie. Rather trade him than a draft pick. And we really don't need Oleksiak. We have replacements in the minors for if we lose Soucy.

His play in the play-in was nothing special and I don't think he performed all that well in a top-4 role the last game when Suter was out. He may want more term than we should offer, though.

According to stars fans he was one of their best guys on the back end this year. He had a strong year. I'm still going with the idea that Soucy will try his luck elsewhere.

This surprises me (a canucks fan) because, besides Brodin I though that he was one of your most solid guys. You have a top 4 guy playing bottom pair minutes, that might be another reason he tries his luck elsewhere, because at this point he is hopeless to get more ice time. I would expect he gets about 2.75-3M

That was just stupid coaching and line placing/matching. If anything Spurgeon should have been moved to the left side, which he is more than capable of doing, throw Dumba into the vacated RD spot and just slot Soucy into Dumba's usual spot. He was money from there with Brodin earlier in the year.

    You're suggesting...

    Spurgeon - Dumba
    Brodin - Soucy
    Bartkowski - Hunt

    That's interesting

He wasn't that good, but I attribute that to it being his first time ever playing in a top pairing role.

I agree, he should've played next to Brodin in the last play-in game, but I think Soucy looking good in the regular season next to Brodin was more a testament to Brodin's ability than it was so much his own. Sample size is small, though. I think somewhere around a $2.5M x 2 contract would be fine if we plan on going with the 8 skaters, 1 goalie option for the expansion draft. Then he could be the exposed defensman under contract for that to meet the requirements.

Spurge and Dumba have paired up like that dozens of times and work well together, so yeah.
