The ottowa trade is pure cap management for the senators. It gives them a 4.3mm cap hit and they would be only 1.3 mm as his actual salary is 2.3mm for the year. And given the number of picks ottowa has they should be packaging them, but a different 3rd or 4th. sure. In the flat cap, some teams need to shed cap numbers and some need to shed actual money. ottowa is the second, cause your owner is cheap.

Ottawa isn't going to be paying other teams for cap hits, they'll be paid BY them. That's not how any of that works. Not only is Smith bad and taking up a roster spot on whatever team he's on, he's got a contract that will warrant being paid with a sweetener, not giving up a valuable pick. You've got that all backwards. They don't have interest unless a prospect or higher pick is coming back.
