2020 2021 approach from within and contention

Créé par: Nighthawk
Équipe: 2020-21 Canucks de Vancouver
Date de création initiale: 11 août 2020

Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
Podkolzin signed May 1st 2021 & joins the roster
-sets up a Virtanen trade at the TDL so note his omission after resigning for a roster spot.
Baertschi requests termination to test the UFA market for a fresh start
-Canucks grant permission to seek a team
Cap space to pay Petey & Hughes bonuses
Eriksson plays for free but still a 3.5m AAV
Rathbone & Juolevi rotate in & out for development
Stecher is just a casualty of change

You may notice not enough cap to resign EP & Hughes to longterm deals in 2021 offseason.
I’m assuming either one or both will sign hefty Covid bridge deals. Big pay days will follow later.

Minor tweaks to offers might be doable.

That third line will never happen. Podkolzin is staying in the KHL for 1 more year anyways. Signing Pietro on that contract almost destroys all hopes of signing Hughes and Petey the next year after. Lastly, Sven isn't going to be on LTIR.

Honestly if you could do it this team would be sick. The bridge might hurt ya in a couple years and cost a lot more to resign them, but I definitely can see this team in the playoffs and definitely being a threat to win a couple rounds. Toughest part is gonna be keeping Markstrom and Toffoli at those cap hits and not giving them more years, but if you could do I think those are solid deals.

It’s a calculated risk & covid will affect many players next contracts. Luongos recapture will be gone & other vets will be expired.

I posted a trade for your Rags idk but it’s a start.

Pettersson & Hughes are going to laugh very hard at you about taking "COVID discounts" and bridge deals after you've thrown that kind of money at Pietrangelo.

That might get you fired if you're Jim Benning to be honest.

Ohh.. And the Devils are not interested in that deal.

Then don’t offer them ‘ discounts’. They get HEFTY covid bridges or 1 does. Covid contract meaning flat cap era & hefty is opposite of lean. Aka big not small so for example 2/8m. To be honest I’m not JB & if you wanna play JB & back up the Brinks truck to offer Matthews/Marner contracts to them both it would be irresponsible & very ill timed in these recent times of very low revenue streams & the uncertainty it’s caused for at least 3yrs. I believe you misinterpreted or I spoke poorly.

As far as the NJD deal I mentioned minor tweaks.
    Saying not interested means what?
    - closing the door
    - non negotiable
    - Roussel is of no interest.
    - ask is too much
Any of the above or is it something else?
    Ty cheers🍺

The exaggeration is the issue. 1 or 2 dominos fall & ppl will see a clearer picture. Sure some work to do but not desperate as some would like to believe

NJD deal - the ask is too much for a bottom-6 forward carrying a $3M cap hit for two seasons. This looks more like a cap dump than anything else. The Devils have plenty guys in the system that are close to stepping into the bottom-6 role so there is no reason for NJ to be giving up a mid-pick for AR.

Canucks fans hoping for Baertschi to walk away are dreaming. He'll probably never get another big-money NHL deal, his career earnings aren't super high, he for sure is grabbing that last $3M.
