If We Draft 16th Overall

Description
MOVES EXPLAINED (READ BEFORE COMMENTING):
- Seth Jarvis is a skilled, gritty and smart right winger that fits really well under our system. Bergevin is ecstatic to pick him at 16th overall if he’s still available. If he’s taken, Holloway/Mercer/Lapierre/Askarov are also good picks at that range.
Unlike most, I think Domi will remain a Hab for a while. After this year, he doesn’t have as much leverage during contract talks and MB can take advantage of that to sing him long term.
- Gallagher is extended to an 8 year, 5.5M USD deal, taking a paycut in exchange of being a Hab for life. An NTC and a NMC are included.
- Danault is extended for a 6 year, 5M USD deal. Taking a minor paycut in exchange for term (he is worth 6.25M imo). He gets a NTC. Danault can play 3C here on a good, young forward core and get some more ice team on the PK and potentially the PP.
- Petry is extended for 4 years at 6.5M with a NTC. He is one of our best defensemen and deserves every single penny.
- Romanov gets a 9 game tryout before the season starts. If he’s ready, he takes Juulsen or Kulak’s spot. If not, he is sent down.
- Greiss is a proven backup that can play a gold amount of games in a season. Perfect fit for Montreal. He is signed on a two year deal to goal to give Primeau more time.
- Tatar likely gets dealt before his contract is up. He’s a great addition to any contender. His value as a rental is likely a 1st and a 3rd, but since he is extended and his current salary is 50 % retained, he is easily worth a 1st and a 2nd now, since Colorado gets more certainty long-term and cap leeway for this seasons with these extra conditions.
- Tampa gets a 3rd goalie alongside some important cap space. Montreal gets a good depth player that Tampa can’t keep due to their cap issues.
- Seattle Expansion Draft Protection List: Domi, Suzuki, Gallagher, Drouin, Kotkaniemi, Lehkonen, Danault, Weber, Petry, Mete, Price.
- Seattle picks Chiarot.

LINEUP EXPLAINED:
- I kept the lines that we saw at the end of the game today, since they seemed to work really well. I switched Tatar with Domi though.
- I see the 4th line as a gritty line that can still score. I’d like to see Hudon be given one last chance to perform with some young, relatively talented players. If he doesn’t work out. Paquette takes his place. If Poehling isn’t ready, he is sent down to Laval and another player takes his place.
- The 2 first pairs have chemistry, I’d leave them alone.
- Mete can play on the right side for the time being. Romanov is given 9 games to see if he’s ready for the show, if he performs well, he replaces Kulak. If he isn’t ready, Juulsen takes his pace and Mete moves to the left side. If Juulsen isn’t playing good, Fleury can take his place.
- Armia, Weal and Paquette can all be dealt at the deadline if we aren’t making the playoffs. If we are, a top 6 rental RW could make sense. Maybe acquiring a rental LD could work, but only if Romanov isn’t ready and Kulak (an inconsistent player; sometimes great like in these playoffs, sometimes meh) isn’t playing good enough to warrant a top 4 spot.

I agree with almost all of this
Good job overall

What I disagree :
- Gallagher contract, personally I’ll give him 5 years 6.75M
- Hudon —> AHL he can’t play defense

For your information :

Suzuki doesn’t need to be protected to the expansion draft

Throw a late ( 5th maybe ) round pick going to Tampa and retained half of Lindgren salary ( 375K )

I don’t mind if we lose against Pens. In fact, I’d be happy. Just wanted to do an AGM for it.

yeah I don’t know why I put Suzuki there lol. I mean I don’t see the point to changing that Tampa trade. Lindgren wouldn’t be the backup in Tampa, so if he’s called up, a goalie would be on LTIR. I’ve seen a lot of Tampa fans trade Paquette for like a 5th or a 6th and IMO both Lindgren and Vejdemo would be worth around a 6th together so I think Tampa does this. I could add a 6th or a 7th though.

Talking about Vejdemo, why not keep him ? Centers in Laval next year Poehling Hillis ... I think a line with Teasdale-Vejdemo-Alain could be good for Teasdale

Yeah he could be useful, but imo Paquette is an upgrade and I see Vejdemo as being a healthy scratch on the Habs next year. I decided that we may as well upgrade on him.

Good job overall, love the pick, love Greiss and I also think Danault Petry and Gallagher needs to be signed while Tatar would also be my choice to move for cap issue/good trade value. The only thing I disagree with is the Domi situation. I love him and want him to stay but if he can't accept to return at LW, he has to go... KK Zuke and Danault is the future at center. You did move him at LW but I doubt it makes him happy and willing to sign long-term.

Agree 100 %. However, I think he loves playing in MTL and if he gets 1st line ice time and plays center during injuries I think he’ll be happy enough to extend here.

It’s funny how a lot of MTL fans want them to lose this series. Pens winning this series is good for both of our teams lol. The second half of the game was a complete embarrassment tonight. Reminds me of the tail end of the Byslma era pens

I agree, but we’ve seen that Kulak has been inconsistent. Sometimes, he looks like he could play top 4, sometimes, he’s a top 6 guy at best. Mete is not playing that good right now, but he’s an underrated, capable NHL player that can still grow. I’d rather keep Mete over Kulak if I had the choice at the end of the day, but if I wanted to insert Romanov in the lineup, I think the best choice would be to scratch Juulsen sadly.

yeah 100 % agree. best case scenario, you guys win. i don’t think anybody in the league wants to see you guys with laffy haha, but if we win i won’t be that mad either (unless you guys get laffy). the prospect quality falls off after 8/9 (if you consider Lundell elite) anyway.

I agree with that, Kulak is playing is best hockey right now and Mete is worse ( playing with Ouellet + your offside doesn’t help ) but yeah Kulak first season was playing like a top4, this year #6-7 sometimes and now like a #4 during these playoffs. Having Chiarot Weber Kulak Petry Romanov Mete Juulsen next year is good IMO

100 %. Don’t get why ppl insist we absolutely need a LD rn. I’d rather keep Domi and play him LW (and play him as center during injuries or maybe even on special teams) and hope Drouin forms chemistry with KK.

Why does Colorado need any salary retained on any deal next year? Have you looked at their cap space? And who feels Tatar is worth a 1st (even the very bottom pick) and a 2nd (even the very bottom pick) when he is going to be an UFA anyways? You do realize this won't be a normal year where teams have cap space to add players for a run right? So why do you think normal trade values apply? He's no where close to worth that esp to a team that won't care about retained salary--because they have plenty of cap.

Retained cap space allows them to trade for a one year rental. Tatar will also likely sign a team friendly extension. He can score 60-70 points too. Definitely worth a late first and a late 2nd.

I think COL passes. Pure speculation here on my part but I think MB was in COL at near this years trade deadline, to scout players and hash out a Tatar trade, Jost didn’t play up to his expectations and Sakic wouldn’t give up a 1st and consequently the deal died. I think Sakic is VERY loathe to trade a 1st round pick even if it is a late one. But that’s just what I think.

Colorado has 22M in cap space with 9 guys to sign. Tatar is a LW. Colorado's LW's are Vladislav Namestnikov & Gabriel Landeskog--which one exactly does he replace? And you want them to give up a 1st plus a 2nd for the difference between say Namestnikov and Tatar? I don't think that flies as Xqb15 and I have stated.
