If good teams get possession, they get scoring chances, and likely goals follow. Dougie Hamilton hands the puck over gift wrapped in the corner. Maybe you watched that emasculating sweep last year. It was a delight every time he was on the ice if you were a bruins fan.

he was on the ice for three goals against

Not really... He had the 7th lowest GA/60 of all d men at 5v5 last year (with Reimer and Mrazek in net lol) 64th lowest over the past 3 years (yes I realize that is a flawed stat, but his xGA alsoo backs that up, and the eye test as I said earlier shows how he doesn't give up many good chances against), I'd take 3 seasons of great defensive play over one bad series lol

Is everyone on this site absolutely incapable of watching a hockey game, and using their brain to form an opinion based on what they have seen?

You realize that players can improve right? He mightve been bad with the Bruins (he wasnt) but he wouldve been my Norris winner if he didnt get injured. Hes definitely way better now than he was in his Bruins days

Are you capable of watching games other than Bruins games...? (You know, the ones when Dougie didn't really give up any goals and constantly stop opponents from getting good chances in front of the net or anywhere in the middle of the ice)

I gamble like crazy. I watch everyone. Dougie is legitimate trash defensively. One of the worst in the entire league. Horrible. Awful. Preposterously bad. Not seeing that means you’re watching the game on a spreadsheet.

And you’re a legitimate loser if your opinion is 100% based off stats you don’t understand.

am i right to assume that if you are in the ice for less goals scored against your own team as a defender, you must be doing something right?

Care to explain what you saw other than allowing low cycles (that more often than not don't lead to much bc he just breaks up any centering attempt) and not being physical (which in some/most cases is good for actually stopping chances) that makes you think he's so bad defensively

Soft in corners is a cardinal sin for d men. Can’t win puck battles. Disinterested in front of the net. Mediocre gap control at best.

Did you seriously just use +/- to determine defensive impact?

Didn't even look at it

It's really not... you're not gong to be giving up many goals unless you chance the cycle and give up the middle (which he doesn't). I wouldn't really call it disinterested, he doesn't engage and push the guy in front around all that much, but he generally stays in position, doesn't let many passes through, and i strongly disagree with calling his gap control mediocre, he's really good at stepping up at both bluelines (imo defense starts when the other team gets the puck in their zone) and denying entries, and denying those breakout/stretch passes from the d zone

So, you don’t mind being bad in the corners? How do you think most goals in the NHL are scored? Breakaways?

Off the rush (which he is usually very good at defending) or from a cycle, yes, but just bc he doesn't breakup the cycle doesn't mean he's not good at defending the players once the come out of that cycle...
