Because the management team loves value. They feel like they won if they sign a guy to under his expected salary (see Mrazek over Lehner or sign Dzingel). It is what happens when metrics drive the entire decision making process.

Also, Fleury should be in there over Edmundson with Skjei playing in his strong side.

Hamilton will play, Rod's basically confirmed that. The bigger question is Pesce, because there's a chance he'll be ready for this series at some point, maybe towards the end of the series.

I would play Fleury and Geekie over Gardiner and Dzingel. Fleury was having a solid season and Geekie just adds that Foegele-like quality of energy and good chaos.

Really hoping Vatanen is a spark if Hamilton is out.

Be careful what you wish for. I like Gardiner, and his play has picked up over the last weeks before COVID. I could totally see him being an X-factor against you guys.

Apparently Dzingel's really gotten a spark in camp with Geekie pushing so hard for a spot. That's good news, not bad news. Competition makes guys like him elevate their game.

It would be great if Dzingel or Nino find their scoring touch. I feel like Nino can contribute on any line and was more unlucky than anything. Dzingel really needs to be on a scoring line, otherwise I just don't think he's a good fit elsewhere (i.e. with Staal or Martinook).
