Description
Lafrienere comes to the the habs.

Tatar becomes expendable.

Bergevin takes advantage of the Islanders cap situation, which allows him to move Petry.

Probably end up moving some picks or signing a backup for two years while Primeau develops. Couldn’t make up my mind on who to pick up.

Yeah yeah bla bla bla i just prove to you that team trade for aging defenseman and that they are willing to pay but you still don’t want to accept that you don’t know a ****ing thing about whatvyou are talking about. The fact that you don’t like Petry doesn’t mean he isn’t worth a first round pick. Any one who barely know about hockey would know that Petry is worth that pick and would argue about it. A mid to late first round for a defenseman who can play over 24 minutes a night, who score 10 or more goals, 40+ points and who is extremely physical team on a very great deal team would literally goes nut if he would be available

Actually you didn't prove anything, you didn't understand my comments or chose to argue to suit your narrative and it's delved into the immature responses, I don't get why Habs fans get so defensive about Petry, I think he's good but I doubt he's getting a 2020 1st.

Names? A ton doesn’t mean quality players.

Petry is worth a 1st+ 100%. The problem is teams unable to affort his salary with the flat cap.

For the love of ****ing gawd I never said he isn't worth a 1st, I said I don't see any team parting with a
2020 1st for him, maybe a 21 1st at the TDL but I don't see a team in this offseason trading a 2020 1st for Petry.

Pietrangelo, Barrie, Shattenkirk, Schultz, Vatanen, Tanev, Hamonic, Brodie(LHD but prefers RHD), DeMelo

Yes I know Petry is better then some of those guys but they don't cost a 1st round pick to acquire and given the cap crunch across the league some of those guys might have to take discounts to find a job.

So yeah there's quite a few good RHD available in free agency, there's a few more decent ones as well though they're not as good but they do water down the market somewhat.

@Habs_Hfx10

MTL NEED to sign a veteran back up goalie for 2 years minimum since by the rules of Seattle expansion draft they need to offer a goalie under contract throught the season 2021-2022.

Even if they are not the best available (when does MTL get tge best available UFAs anyway), I would bet on Brossoit or Domingue.

Good point, I admit I didn’t point any thought in the goalie situation. I really want to explore what the team could look like after trading Petry and Tatar since I don’t see it feasible to keep all the veterans we have at the moment. I’d be open to the two goalies you’ve suggested.

Overpayment for petry (considering it’s 2020 1st likely in the 10-20 range). Teams don’t overpay in the offseason so I don’t see this happening then. I also don’t see many, if any, tea moving a 2020 1st this offseason. This is a rare chance for contenders to land projected top 6 forwards/top 3 defensemen with their 1sts. I don’t see many teams giving up on that since they probably haven't had a first in a while and likely won’t for a while as well. Maybe at the tdl, but a 1st and a 2nd is still too much imo (unless an extension is involved). Maybe something closer to the leafs deal for muzzin would work. At the tdl I would give say Stanley, harkins (depending on how well he doesn’t next year), and a 1st for petry.

I did a (approximative) projection of 2021 team demontrating that MTL cant afford 2 of their 4 big UFAs (Gally, Danault, Tatar, Petry).

I agree Petry and Tatar are the one that need to go.
The only way we can resign one of them would be to trade Byron. Even if everybody's trading him on this site, in reality it would be actually very difficult to trade that contract without taking a similar caphit back.

Petry would be second to Pietrangelo on that list.

Others are middle pairing to 3rd pairing quality. If your point is that less skilled players are more available and come cheaper, well d'uh. It's like saying that a top 6 foward is less in demand because there's plenny of bottom 6 foward available. But that's not how you actually improve a team.

Many teams will be interested and able to afford Petry at TDL.

Read my comments, I said I doubt any team is trading a 2020 1st for Petry, a 2021 1st at the TDL seems very possible imo.

Between now and whenever the draft is I really don't think any team is giving a 2020 1st for Petry, idk what's so hard to understand about my opinion, at this point there's a huge value difference between a 2020 1st and a 2021 1st which is why I doubt any team is parting with a 2020 1st for a 32 year old UFA.

I’m not so sure, that would take up a ton of their available cap space and leave little money left for Toews and Barzal. They have a lot of bad contracts that teams probably won’t have much interest in picking up. They’re right side can handle losing Pulock since they have Dobson, their left side is weaker and will need to keep Toews. I’m not saying it’s impossible but this move would really make it hard for them.

I think that if they can't make cap space they will trade Pulock (before the offersheet) for more than a 1st, 2nd and 3rd
